We stayed 2 weeks in this hotel that was proposed by our local travel agency as one of the best hotels of the island. In Tenerife, this is the first 5star hotel we stayed.
We were housed in the Taganana building on the 4th floor with a rather limited sea view (to be paid extra). Unfortunately, a huge palm tree blocks the view at some levels. It is still better than having the street view.
The hotel is located at the outside of Playa Las Americas and close to the new “rich” zone with a lot of other 5star hotels (Riu, Del Duque, Iberostar, …). It will take 15-30min till Puerto Colon on foot and taxi is required to go to the casino and other central shopping areas.
The hotel has many rooms but as it is separated by huge gardens in several buildings, it is really nice to wander around and you will not encounter many guests , except during dinner and break-fast.
Before giving our overall opinion, here our plus and minus points:
Plus
- Wonderful swimming pool area with huge palm trees, a lot of transats, 2 pools, one heated pool even in summer. Quiet location. Just marvelous.
- A lot of trees, plants, etc. Nice considering the volcanic surroundings. Walking around the hotel is almost visiting a tropical garden. The buildings are nicely distributed and you have to walk a bit to join the main building (reception, restaurant,…).
- Pool towel service. You can change every day your towels or keep them for the next day. It closes at 20h so you have time enough to take a swim in the almost hot pool water at 19h.
- All transats that are re-arranged every evening. There is a parasol and a little table for each 2 transats. Perfect. Pool beds are often reserved in the morning but not used. But this is done everywhere so…
- We had a big balcony with 2 beds, parasol, table and chairs. Perfect if you want to stay upstairs and not to go to the swimming pool. Nice view from the Balcony. You probably have a better view from the Masca building (the one closer to the beach and thus farther away from the main building). Ask to have a room on the top floors to have a good view.
- Good comfortable standard rooms. We asked for a king/queen size bed and we got it. Sheets & towels are changed every day. The room is well equipped: minibar (drinks are a bit expensive), satellite LCD screen (a lot of Spanish channels however), a lot of space for dresses, trousers, etc., a big safe with digital code, well equipped bathroom but nothing special. A suite has a separated salon but we are not sure this it is worth paying for it.
- Contrary as told before departure, the safe in the room is for free and very big. I was able to store my 17” laptop in this safe.
- Overall cleanliness of the hotel is correct. The hotel is more than 10 years old so it is a bit “used” but not outdated.
- Restaurant “La cascade” is very nice: well situated beside the swimming pool and good kitchen (try the tapas!). But we found one lipstick mark on a glass and it was not ours!
Minus
- Breakfast buffet: basic standard buffet mainly English and everyday the same. Fruits are missing almost all time. Also, the personnel does not really care about letting you enjoy your breakfast and constantly run & shout in the restaurant. They also start to prepare tables for dinner even when people are still eating and that long time before + 1 hour before the end of indicated breakfast hour. The home-made bread and pastry is on the contrary, very good!
- We had no half-board but we tried one evening the supper buffet. We paid more than 60? (2p) for basic stuffs. Clearly overpaid for what it is. We advice to go out for dinner. There are enough restaurants around the corner (a lot of bad and some good) that are better and cheaper (even a Tony Roma’s with the best ribs I ever tasted!)
- You can catch the Wi-Fi signal around the pool but you have to pay an important fee in order to connect to the Internet with your own laptop. This should be a free service nowadays. Anyway, there are 4 free Internet stations on the top floor.
- There is a bike location center that we tried once but most of the bikes are mountain bikes that are not suited for cruising and sport staff does not really cooperate to help you. Also, the timetable is stupid and the office is closed half of the day. We had to store the bikes a couple of hours in our room as we paid 100? as caution (!). This service could be improved.
- A lot of noise is made by the cleaning personnel, even early in the morning. Also, you never know when they will pop up in your room … Rooms were done according to an aleatory hours, sometimes at 10 am, sometimes at 4 pm and towels was missing ( have to ask twice ).
- Speaking about hotel service staff, the overall impression was that it lack training and was over stressed. Contrarily to that, the garden and pool staff act in a very professional and calm manner !
- The sea view is partial due to some high palm trees, you do not see much of the beach or sea.
- The bathroom is very small and we expected a bit more for a 5star hotel.
Conclusion:
We stayed in numerous 5 star hotels but the general feeling was this is a very good 4star hotel. It does not have the high-end services you can expect but as you might know, this is Tenerife/Playa Las Americas and this hotel is probably one of the best of the island. So try to find a good price for this hotel and you cannot go wrong.

My husband and I (both pensioners - active!), have just returned from one week at this hotel. We had a room on the ground floor, overlooking the gardens and the pool area, so had an easy walk to swim, and our own loungers just outside our terrasse for relaxing on.
We would recommend going B/B as we did. You can then have a change of restaurant whenever you feel like it. We dined three times at the poolside restaurant which we really liked, very romantic in the evening, sitting by the water, listening to the waterfalls. The waiting staff there were, without exception, excellent. One night we had the buffet dinner, but found that unless you get there promptly after seven o'clock, some of the food runs out! I.e., we would have liked to have had some gammon or beef carved in front of you, but by 8 o'clock, it was all gone. No replacement came, so we had a stir fry done in front of us instead, very nice, but that is not the point. One night we ate in the Cupola restaurant, a la carte. Excellent food, but the prices were as high as in some of London's best restaurants, and the portions 'nouvelle cuisine'. Not good value. Twice we went to two very good restaurants nearby, recommended by the Sovereign rep. In retrospect, we should have gone out more and left the buffet to the crowds - not good value at 33 euroes per person.
The swimming pool was lovely and warm. The staff without exception excellent, the cleaning very good, but some days our bedroom was not done until after 3 p.m.
We enjoyed the putting green which we had to ourselves every day. We also played table tennis every afternoon, again with noone else in sight. Are we unusually active for our ages, or any ages?
The evening entertainment was mostly good. We love dancing so had a good go at jiving every night. Some of the specialist acts that come on at 10 o'clock were somewhat amateurish, and boring, but others (for example the four tenors) were excellent.
All in all, we were very pleased with this hotel and will probably return one day.

Spent 10 days at this hotel. The hotel setting is beautiful - surrounded by lots of palm trees, tropical plants & flowers. Our room overlooked the putting green, part of the pool & the sea in the distance. Room was immaculate - the maid service is the best I've ever come across & I've stayed in a good few 5 star hotels!. The pool is excellent although be aware of the freshwater pool - it is freezing!. I only dipped my toe in & quickly slipped back into the heated salt water pool!. We only stayed on a B&B basis. Breakfast again excellent - large choice to suit all. We ate out every night - there is a lift that takes you down directly to the sea front & there are restaurants all along the front & off some of the side streets. Some of the previous reviews mentioned that most of the guests were older but when we stayed there was a mix of young, old and families. Overall - lovely hotel, would recommend.

Not as good as sister hotel Roca Navaria

We spent five days at this hotel before travelling north to a wedding. Compared to it's sister hotel it is a little dated. In particular the bathroom in the ground floor room was very dated with an over the bath shower.
There is no spa and the gymnasium appears to be geared up for heavy weights use.
The hairdressers was closed for three weeks, inconvenient when attending a wedding.
The reception staff were only just obliging.
If you turn right as other people have said, there are better looking bars and restaurants, very expensive area and not very good quality.
The fish restaurant immediately opposite the hotel exit to the promenade was very friendly and good value. However, after talking to a local resident we found, probably the best fish restaurant on the island, called Masia del Mar in La Caleta, a short taxi ride away.
The area were were in, adjacent to the main building, was very noisy mainly due to hotel staff, i.e. chambermaids starting work at 7.30.
On the plus side the breakfast was excellent.
