Don't go on the Moors.

My colleague and I visited the hotel on a business trip. After driving from London we arrived at 1.45pm to be told we could not check in until 3pm. Fair enough, we decided to have some lunch in the restaurant or bar. The restaurant was 'closed' and the bar stopped serving food at 1.45! The menu stated that that food was served until 2.30pm but the waiter/barman was having none of this. I was told that we could have a cold sandwich at which we became a little more vocal. A manager then informed us that he would see what he could do and managed to 'convince the chef' to cook us both a mixed grill. At ?20 each you would expect the food to be good but my pork chop was not cooked and was actually bleeding. I informed the waiter who said he would 'tell the chef'. We never saw him again.
The soundproofing in the hotel is non existent and this was exacerbated by two young children being allowed to charge up and down the corridors at 6.30am.
The outside lines did not work in my room or my colleagues. I rang reception and was told that 'Yours probably isn't working'. What a great help. You cannot get a mobile signal anywhere in the hotel building.
If anyone does visit try the pubs in Otley, the beer is fantastic and the locals welcoming.
Liked it a lot

I had heard interesting reports about this hotel and was very pleased. Food was excellent and the setting of the restaurant was superb - thought I was in Canada - lake side - wild life etc.
My room was in the main block and was very smart, some rooms are separate pine lodges - Canada again! in west yorkshire. Down side check out was bit frantic but staff were friendly.
Regards

This hotel is really unique and beautiful. We stayed in a gorgeous log cabin and it was huge - it was a suite complete with our own lounge and verandah. It really felt like we were no longer in England - it felt like I imagine log cabins in Canada to be like! The scenery around the hotel is amazing and we went for lovely long walks - there's so much cute wildlife and wonderful views. The swimming pool, jacuzzi & gym are also really great and we had a lovely day relaxing there. Also the breakfast was delicious. We will definitely be coming back again.

First the positives. The staff couldn't be more friendly or helpful. The food is very good indeed, with a nice menu, varied and well cooked. And they have a lovely cheese platter, a big plus for me! Bar prices were a bit high but hey its a hotel.
I booked through Easybreaks, and got an excellent rate. However, this doesn't excuse some of the following.
On the downside, the room I had was very poor indeed. The rooms are in a lodge format in the woods. What looks like one good-sized lodge is in fact sub-divided into 3, and the soundproofing was no better than a shed. The bathroom was very poor, the floor was soft under the linoleum and stank of damp. The sink tap would run constantly. The people in the other 2 rooms were absolutely fine, but the soundproofing meant I could hear practically every word spoken either by them or the TV. Overall, nice location but I slept very poorly, I don't think I'd be back.

This was our second visit (first since takeover) and we had an enjoyable stay. Plenty to do in surrounding area, whether you want town shopping (Harrogate/Skipton), stately home/garden visits or walking/cycling etc. Knew to expect renovation work which was fine. (Note - if it's your first visit, ensure you have good directions or satnav as many guests miss the hotel turn-off sign on the main road.) Pleasant welcome at reception and all staff were very helpful throughout stay. Chalet (in grounds) was in need of some refurbishment but clean - Hansel and Gretel experience! Dinner starters and mains were very good - breakfasts so-so. Hotel's Gen Mgr sometimes reads reviews here so can I respectfully list some annoyances re catering which blatantly smack of penny-pinching!... 1. First time I've encountered a hotel dinner menu with no coffee/tea (extra!). 2. When we asked for some water, waitress carefully measured out less than half a small wine glass each (is it rationed in Yorkshire or a polite nudge to buy a bottle of wine) - I frequently asked her for top-ups and she diligently poured out another measure each time!! 3. Same dessert choice every night 4. Breakfast food (limited choice, no fresh fruit)and drinks self service with tea/coffee in 2 flasks, faintly marked, so you end up with a cup of mixed! Leisure pool etc obviously due for refurb soon and there was a nasty drain smell in ladies' changing area but we still enjoyed a daily swim. We hope to make a return visit once renovations are complete, but some small subtle changes (like a jug of water on the table!) would make a difference.
