Lack of Atmosphere

I had read all the reviews before we booked and have to agree that the locality of the hotel is excellent, the views are stunning, but was very disappointed in the view from our room. We had specifically requested 2 x sea view rooms, but we were given rooms at the side of the hotel over-looking the small beach, which was ok, but not what was asked for. We did ask reception for change of rooms, only to be told nothing was available, (in a not too friendly tone) end of story.
We were on a B & B basis and breakfast was basic, so can't comment on any other meals. The setting from the dining room looking out to the Palma coastline was something else though.
The dining room staff were pleasant and accommodating.
The reception staff unfortunately left a lot to be desired, they were not helpful or pleasant. On checking in,we were not given any information or directions as to where the dining room, swimming pool, or any facilities were, we had to find out that for ourselves. I think the hotel lacks atmosphere and could do so much more to improve on their evening entertainment. The hotel reception is situated above the guest rooms which feels very strange and unless you are going out, you don't have to pass through it, so therefore, you never really see anyone.
Apart from all that, it is a lovely hotel with beautiful views, but not staff not too friendly or accommodating.
Go for the B+B not HB!!

Just back from a weeks stay in the Playa Marina, which was good in a lot of areas but really poor at dinner time.
First the good stuff: our room (618) was spacious and had a view over a little cove at the side of the hotel. The decor was bright, but it helped to cheer the place up on wet days. The bathroom was better than I'd expected from some of the reviews i.e. it was spotlessly clean and in a good state of repair. However, as so often happens, despite requesting a double, we were given a twin.
The buffet breakfasts were plentiful and reflected the varying tastes of the different nationalities staying there. Later in the week when the sun appeared, it was lovely eating out on the sea facing terrace.
I only wish I could say the same about dinner. Every day, there was a non descript campbells style soup, basic salad stuff plus 2 or 3 mixed salads(the seafood salad one day had "seafood sticks" in it, this in a 4* hotel on an island!). Every day, there were mixed grilled meats and fish, which managed to be both dry and greasy, and that was about it. Buffet food normally suits my boyfriend and me as we have different food tastes, but by the third night, we were both pushed to find something to eat. The restaurants near the hotel weren't particularly good as an alternative, and we felt too scruffy for the Bon Sol!
We only went down to the evening entertainment once, which was a belly dancer. Despite an audience of only about 15, she put on a good performance.
Illetas seems to be very quiet at this time of year, so thank heavens for the number 3 bus!! Still only EUR 1.10 for a 30 minute trip right to the centre of Palma. Once there, the open topped bus tour (EUR 14 I think) was well worth taking, as was the narrow gauge train to Soller (EUR 17 return) followed by a tram to Porto Soller (EUR 4 each way). We had a fabulous lunch in Porto Soller at the restaurant Randemar on the sea front.
This was my 5th or 6th visit to Majorca, and I've still not been in the Cathedral in Palma, so I'll have to come back. Next time I think I'll stay in Soller!

Just back from a 6 night stay. We flew from Belfast with Easyjet and booked on line. We got a taxi from Palma airport that cost 40 euro.
Hotel is in a beautiful setting, we requested a sea view room and got a room with a fab view of the bay on the 5th floor. Room wasn't overly huge but comfortable and clean. The was a wee fridge which was useful ( for the girlies bring your own hair dryer, the hotel one is not great !!). The pool area is not massive, but very nice and the views are great, you can swim in the sea. The views made the hotel for me to be honest.
We were B&B, breakfast was good, not massive choice, but enough for us. you can eat outside and soak in the views. Illetas is very quiet but suited us there are number of hotels in the area which also looked quiet nice.
The hotel is a good base to get around. The no 3 bus takes you into Palma ( 1.10 euro), there are loads of buses. Palma is well worth a visit. you are not far from Palma Nova, we went in by taxi one nite it was pleasant enough had a lovely meal overlooking the bay. We then went for a walk and end up in Magalluf, SCARY or WOT !!! bit a of a sad reflection on how people get their kicks..that's all I will say.
We did a lot of walking around Illetas, walked to Porta Poulius, found the most beautiful cove. Illetas also has a small beach, very beautiful...a lot of yachts stop of there.
There are a few restaurants near the hotel, but not loads of choice. Would recommend the Rose Mallow for lunch good home cooked food with good service
I would go back, Illetas is a lovely spot, the hotel was great, but I did feel it lacked something for me. They maybe could try harder to get more of an atmostphere in the hotel and encourage more people to pop in. There was entertainment at night but unfortunately the one night we went down to see it they were singing to themselves !!!
The hotel was value for money and staff good, we had a late flight and they gave us a room for 20 euro which we could keep til late.

We spent 4 nts in this hotel which included breakfast and dinner.
The last time we visited was in the early 80s-loved it so much we
went 3yrs running.
The hotel has been refurbished recently.Illetas is an upmarket area and the hotel was very quiet. The staff were very helpful and polite. The outside terrace where we dined was wonderful-great seaviews, adequate breakfast and a very good evening meal with a very good choice of fish dishes in the buffet.Wine was very goodat 10E per bottle. The rooms are small, but all have seaviews and are clean. The pool area is very pleasant.
If I have to make a criticism it would be the hotel's new decor. The bedrooms are very garish, decorated in blue and orange,so don't forget to take your sun glasses!!!!I would definitely recommend this hote and will return next year
