We stayed here for a family wedding and due to the Show Me Games in Columbia all the other hotels were booked. Our room smelled horrible and there was mold on the ceiling. The lobby was so nasty I did not even feel comfortable sitting on the furniture. My recommendation - stay somewhere else.

We booked this hotel because it seemed to be a good deal and I had heard that it had changed owners and had been remodeled in the last few years. I wish I had not stayed there. The whole hotel smelled of cigarette smoke, and there were several ashtrays in our room when we requested a non-smoking room. The tiles in the bathroom ceiling were molded and falling down. If you looked along the wall the carpet did not go all the way to it, and you could see the concrete floors under it. The heater was ancient and very loud. The carpet was extremely dirty. I would not believe that this hotel has ever been remodeled. It was not worth the $30 we saved.
There were a couple of good points...the staff was very friendly and accommadating, and the shower pressure and water temperature was probably the best I have ever experienced in a hotel.

My husband and I decided to take a chance on this hotel because of the location in Columbia. Originally I made a reservation online (the hotel's website) on 9/1/06 for $69.00 + tax (total $76.83). During our driving trip I found a $49.00 + tax coupon for the Regency Downtown Hotel. Upon check-in on 9/5/06 I asked if we could use the $49 coupon instead of the original reservation rate of $69. The delightful lady at the front desk said we could.
While checking my credit card statement on 9/14/06, I saw that Regency has billed my credit card for $76.83 ($69.00 + tax) as well as $54.56 ($49 + tax)!!
My credit card has been charged twice for the same 1 night stay.
One (incorrect) charge is for $76.83. Second (correct) charge is for $54.56. (I have a receipt for this amount.)
I immediately contacted my credit card company to let them know about this double-billing problem that the hotel has created.
I also have contacted the hotel by email, fax, and phone to correct this problem. As of 9/27/06, Regency has done NOTHING to correct this problem.

good downtown location. rooms quite clean. public computer access in lobby. morning breakfast was acceptable (mostly cereal & light stuff). got a great price through hotwire. friendly staff. decor is older looking stuff, but if you just want a decent, clean place to stay for the night, this is sure to suffice.

I won a room at this hotel on Priceline. The most recent reviews are the more accurate ones. The new owners (for about a year now, I think) have completely upgraded the rooms and lobby. I thought the Regency was a perfectly decent place to stay. Not dirty or scary. It's sort of a quirky place, not your cookie cutter chain hotel. Hotel has an unusual layout.
The desk staff was extremely friendly and happy to provide eating and shopping suggestions. I enjoyed being within walking distance of all the shops in downtown Columbia rather than out on the freeway.
The one negative that's held over from previous ownership is that the elevators are still extremely slow. I would have no issue with staying at this hotel again.
