Stay Away

I stayed at the Etoile Hotel last week and what a dissapointment it was. I stayed in one of the "remodeled" rooms, I don't want to even think how the older rooms are like. Even though the room was supposed to be remodeled, the bathrooms have not been touched since the 70's. The tile, bathtub and toiletry are very old and worn out. It is supposed to be a 3 star hotel but honestly, I give it a low 2 stars. For the price, there are better options in the area. Do not recommend for business travelers since there is no work space in the room (not even a desk to work on). The area is lovely, right in front of the Recoleta Cementery and near bars and restaurants, but there is a huge selection of hotels that I would prefer to stay for the same price.

First I will say that the rooms are huge - maybe 900 sq feet, divided into 3 sections - the problem was that the rooms were shabby and with very little furniture, making them seem very strange. Also, I booked a queen bed; what they tried to pass off as a queen was really a double bed - way too small for a 10 day stay. I asked to be moved to a room with a larger bed, which they did, then tried to charge me $267 per night extra (the original rate was about $130 per night - same room, larger bed, $267 per night more?). When I told them I was moving out, they threatened not to refund the unused nights - had to get the travel agent involved and wasted alot of vacation time. Staff was cold and unhelpful. Despite its location, I cannot recommend this hotel - we ended up at the Urban Suites 1 block away and loved it.

If run correctly, the Etoile would have the opportunity to be one of the best hotels in Buenos Aires. Unfortunatley, the place is like staying in the U.S. version of Motel 6.
Rooms: Stayed in one level above standard; the room was large, including a separate area for the bed, bath and lounge area. Not sure what died on the rug, but there are odd stains throughout the room. The living room furniture is worn and not too clean, but the bedroom is pretty comfortable. The shower is large and includes a bidet, but the shower jet stream is similar to that of a yard hose. The maids do what they can to make the accomodation acceptable, so kudos to them
There is a pool and gym on the top floor, but the workout equipment is old/dingy and the pool is not the cleanest
Location: Cannot beat it, central to everything. The Recoleta cemetary is right across the street. If you go up to the roof top, you can see it along with a beautiful view of the city. We loved the ability to walk to restaurants and bars in the immediate area
Staff: Very indifferent to us, so they really do not add to the experience
Overall: If they would only invest the money to update the hotel, this place would be a gold mine. In the meantime, if you can grin and bear the various deficiencies, the Etoile serves its purpose

This hotel is located right in the middle of everything: bars, restaurants, night clubs, shopping and right across the street from the world-famous Recoleta Cemetery. The rooms are good size, staff are very helpful and knowledgeble, the rooftop pool complements the view. However, plumbing and appliances show their age, although everything functions. I would stay there again.

The best attribute of the hotel I would say is the location. In the heart of Recoleta neighborhood with great views and close to many bars, restaurant and shops. Recoleta is a nice part of town, mainly residential. From ths location is easy to catch a cab to other city attractions- The breakfast buffet is very complete- eggs/pancakes/fruit/cold cuts/cheeses, specially considering Argentinean standards (which is basically coffee and croissants)
The hotel shows it was probably a top hotel about 30 yrs ago, and shows aging. But if you are practical and dont care about this things it is a good choice, but dont expect modern rooms and new furniture/ bathroom because it is not the case. The hotel offers gym facilities, but to be honest (I am not a gym fan), but if I were they would be unacceptable (old/rusty). Overall my experience was good. Although I was on a business trip and all I used the hotel was for sleeping and breakfast.
