We came to the Hotel K because it had been programmed into my mother's Garmin, so when we arrived in Salerno without a place already arranged, this is where we came. This review is being written in the hotel's comfortable living room lobby, where a computer with free internet is provided. This is a real plus for a traveler, and has made our experience even better.
I am traveling with my mother (I'm 51, she's a bit older). We arrived and were offered a a double room with shower or a room with tub and king bed. The tub was tempting, but we decided separate beds would be more comfortable.
The staff are all very helpful, all speak English although if you know some Italian it is useful. We asked the manager at various times to call the ferry office, the car rental office and whether there were any restaurants nearby, and they always found out for us.
The reception area and lobby are comfortably furnished with couches and chairs, antique pictures and lots of books. We were here in the low season, but I can imagine an eclectic group of people sitting in the couches on a summer evening, reading and chatting.
The hotel is pet-friendly, and in fact we were greeted by the hotel's dog, a 15-year-old named Kundel.
Our room was sparingly furnished, with only one painting on the wall but it was a limited edition print of a minimalist abstract ink drawing. The beds were quite firm, but still comfortable. The large pillows were a down equivalent and outstanding quality. There were plenty of blankets. A door leads to a small balcony so you can open it up to enjoy the fresh air. The bath is blue and white tile, very calming. Small corner shower of the type you find in most tourist hotels, but if I were any heavier I could not have gotten in. Plenty of hot water, though.
Breakfast is included and it is a satisfying spread: several kinds of bread, two kinds of cheese, a couple of meats including very good salame, hard boiled eggs, yogurt and custard, some sweet breads like glazed croissants or a coffee cake, prunes, fresh fruit and fresh made espresso drinks. We were very pleased with the breakfast, which is served from 7:30 to 10 but it was not usually completely set out until 8 a.m.
There is a parking lot and parking garage at no charge.
The hotel seems to be in the less ritzy section of Salerno. We walked every night and the people who crowded the streets were regular folks, who we really enjoyed being around. There were no restaurants nearby, but plenty of bars with calzones, pizzerias and roasterias where you can get a good sandwich. The neighborhood is full of very small businesses, and has an exciting energy as people from the very young to the very old walk through the streets, dodge the multitude of cars, and stop in the middle of traffic to talk to each other.
The Hotel K was a good pied a terre as we explored the Amalfi Coast, Pompei and Vesuvius. It is easy to get to from the A3 autostrada, and just a couple of blocks from the beach. We found it a good value and a quality place to stay.

If you need to stay in Salerno Hotel K is your place. We were using Salerno as a hub for day trips to Paestum, Avellino, Cilento Park, etc. and it worked out well. Hotel K is about a 20 min. walk along the Lungomare (sea view sidewalk) to the train station. It is in a safe location and the staff are professional and helpful. Breakfast is quite a spread of rolls, cheese, meats and they have several lounge rooms and free internet access. They called to get a quote for a driver to take us to Sorrento and then offered to see if one of their staff could take us for a lower price. He offered to take us for 30 euro less and it turned out to be a great experience. Overall a good spot in Salerno - if you want a view of the ocean you need to book at a much more expensive hotel. Hotel K was a great value for what we needed.

My husband and I ( both in our late sixties) booked this hotel from Australia because the price (80 Euros for bed and breakfast ) was one of the best available and because the website gave very clear directions on how to get to the hotel by public transport. (We try to avoid taxis)
The hotel is a few kilometres from the centre of Salerno but we caught the right bus and when we enquired of the passengers where we should alight, one gentleman indicated that he would be getting off at that stop and would show us the way to the hotel.
No matter how you arrive in Salerno, there are numerous signs directing one to Hotel K which has car parking facilities.
The hotel was homely with an attractive lounge and dining area furnished with antiques and comfortable couches, bookshelves full of books to exchange and heaps of up-to-date magazines and journals.
Rooms and bathrooms were spotless, the breakfasts and service were very good and the free use of the internet was a bonus.
Our highest praise, however, goes to the owner of the hotel who could not do enough to make our stay enjoyable. She recommended places where we could eat, offered us tea or coffee at any time during the day and organised transport when we were pushed for time on one occasion.
During our eight-week visit to Italy/ Europe, Hotel K gave us the best value for money. Our thanks to the owner and staff.
