I stayed at the Happy Day Inn from March 20 - 27, 2008. I found it decent, very safe, quiet and clean. The price was right - $69/night for the deluxe room which included a small kitchenette and a queen sized bed (didn't use the kitchenette, but it was great to have it as an option). I didn't check out the continental breakfast as it only ran until 10:00am, so I can't comment on that. The staff was very friendly and quite welcoming on my late arrival of 11:30pm. The outdoor parking lot area was also quite safe. Didn't get a chance to check out the exercise area or laundry room. It's a short distance from the Skytrain (a cab cost about $7.00 one way to the station), and I didn't use the bus system.
If you're on a budget or just looking for a cheap, clean and safe place to stay, I recommend it.

Booked it blind at Hotwire because I needed a place to spend a night. It was the cheapest on the list and I got what I paid for. The room was clean, but that's all I can give it credit for.

On arrival you will be asked for your credit card for potential breakages!!! As we normally use cash, debit cards etc we were told that we couldn't have our room even though it had been fully paid for in advance. It took a $100 cash deposit to the receptionist to finally get in after an hour. We were desparate at 10pm after flying from London and we needed some sleep. Meanwhile a French couple with two kids were weeping at being rejected accomodation for turning up late even though they had booked, they spent the night in their car (motel had double booked). The accomodation is basic minus, advert for porn TV displayed in the room, a fair bus ride to the skytrain station. district is dull but appeared safe. Cheap and relatively clean while we were there. Breakfast is a hot drink from a machine and dubious muffins served in the lobby. Not acceptable at allegedly three star level. Is this Canadian hospitality? We went home early.

My husband and I were looking for a cheap hotel close to his parents' condo for a one-night stay. He found the Happy Day Inn on Travelocity. We were a little concerned, based on reviews, but the hotel wasn't bad. The bedding and towels were clean, the room was fairly clean, and we ended up with a small kitchenette as well. Everything was old, but it was all functional. The hallway smelled a little, but the room was fine (and I'm pregnant and very sensitive to smells).
Breakfast was orange juice, coffee and choice of muffin, bagel or donut. Saved us a few dollars, since that's probably what we would have purchased at Starbucks anyway.
All in all, it's a good hotel for one night, just for sleeping on a stopover on your way somewhere. We probably wont stay here once our baby is born, because I dont think I would want the baby crawling on the floor there- the carpet was pretty old. But it worked well for our needs on this trip.
