The Metropark hotel Kowloon is a great hotel for the money. the rooms are large with a full bathroom, dressing table, TV and fridge. there are 2 supermarkets near the hotel one is directly across the road and the other is about 5 minutes walk from the hotel towards Mong Kok MTR station. these sell a wide range of foods including western. we bought fruit and cereal for the 4 days for the cost of 1 breakfast in the hotel.
getting into the main city is easy the hotel run a free bus in and its only about 15 minutes walk to Monk Kok MTR station. there is also a bus stop outside the hotel with buses going staight to star ferry.
if you intend to use public transport (you'd be a fool not to its so cheap and easy to use) but an Octopus card it makes travel even cheaper and it saves you having to carry pocket fulls of coins.

Although we booked through a travel agent, when we arrived we were give the opportunity to upgrade to the Exec floor for ?80 for the week.
This entiltes you to free breakfast in the club room on the 17th floor, free cocktail hour and free internet access as well as an Exec bedroom.
Well worth the extra.
Excellent location just outside mongkok but quiet enough as well.
ground floor bar has happy hour from 6pm-9pm which makes the drinks ok, otherwise the hotel bar is quite expensive.
Roof top pool is well worth a visit especially in thirty five degree heat!!

We have just returned from Hong Kong & after lots of reading on this sight we settled on this hotel. We booked it through our travel agent, but then we e-mailed the hotel direct to get an upgrade to the club floor.
I'm so glad we did- the price was reasonable for the upgrade andd the room, breakfast included and the happy hour in the afternoon made it totally worth it.
The breakfast was great- had all the things an American buffet breakfast should have, I love watermelon! But the staff were quite surly.
The happy hour was great too- it included hot and cold snacks as well as beer and wine, and we got to socialise with some great people.
Also internet was free in a room off the club lounge. The room itself was large with plenty of toiletries in the bathroom and was very clean.
Only complaint I had was the bed was as hard as they say!
But I never got a sore back or anything from it so maybe hard beds are really good for you!
The shuttle solved the problems of being away from the central shopping/nightlife, but we didn't mind the short walk to Mongkok each day to the ladies market and shopping etc.
And we once walked back from TST back to the hotel which wasn't too bad as we were exploring anyway.
The bakery down stairs had lovely curry buns which my Husband kept buying for snacks.
Overall we loved staying here, and if we go back to Hong Kong again, we'll book in here.

Excellent hotel,
I can't say this enough, I highly recommend this place.
Previous to arrival we were told of an excellent service, if you buy an octopus card from the airport you can take the Airport Express to the Kowloon station, then hop on the free K6 bus that takes you right to the front of the hotel, excellent service and very easy.
We arrived on an early flight 5am and feared that we would be in for a long wait as the usualy check in time for most hotels is 2pm.
We walked up to the counter and were told that there was not a room ready, but there could be in 2 hours.
Not bad at all, we left our bags in a secure location then headed across the street to the Royal restaraunt and had a really, really good Dim Sum.
When we returned, our room was ready and we went right up stairs (we had a club room, which includes a good free buffet breakfast, free drinks/food from 5:30pm-730pm and free use of the computers for internet.)
The bed is... firm, but I'm under the impression that most places in Hong Kong have that problem. You get used to it.
I'm a bit mystified at people complaining that the rooms are cold, there is a climate control switch right in the room which lets you put the temprature to anything you like. Just use that!
The location of the hotel is great, close to the Ladies market (5 minute walk) and the Mong Kok station (10 minute walk) There is a free shuttle service that takes you there as well, but come on... it's a short walk, and you get to experience the city. It's an easy walk too!
The staff have been great, strange that they've been beat up upon previously. I've had lots of help, and they have been more than happy to provide it.
Seriously, for the cost and the fact that Kowloon is a really cool area to have as your base, you cannot go wrong with this hotel.
Clean, great service and a good location.
