Booked a 4 night stay at Glen Grove. It is convenient for travel to downtown Toronto being only a five minute walk to the subway station. Good clean room if a little basic. Air conditioning units were a bit noisy however very welcome in the humidity.

It is a great locaton mid town located right beside a beautiful park and a five minute walk to Lawrance subway station and a ten minute walk to the shops and bars of Yonge and Eglinton.
Glen Grove suites is an old renovated five storey building built in the 30s or 40s. We recently spent three weeks in a two bedroom apartment over Christmas. The building is old but has been given a fresh coat of paint and is very clean. It also has a small gym and a computer room with two PCs and free internet.
Being an old buiding the furnance pumped out the heat without control so we had to have a window open as somedays as it was too warm inside. I can see why others say it can be very hot in the summer as the building is built to keep the heat in.
The staff were friendly and helpful so although it was no Hilton, for the price it is a good place to base yourself if you are spending most of your time out and about.

suite was clean and spacious enough but spare on dishes, cutlery etc.
Room was cleaned once in a 6 day stay ( on fifth day??)
Iron in common laundry room ( good washers and dryers)
air conditioners are window units and noisy and not enough in the humid Toronto summer
Lots of odours from various suites - cooking etc
Decent value though for the price but not for the traveller used to the finer things
Plenty of hot water!

We have just returned from Toronto and stayed for two nights at Glen Grove. The suite was very roomy, but a little dark with high ceilings. The kitchen was well equipped. It is, however, not like a hotel. No hairdryer, iron, nor sink or bath plugs were supplied - so either ask or take your own! The air conditioning was only in the living room so we did find it a little difficult to sleep in the humidity of Summer. Even the sound of the underground did not lull us to sleep! If you want to self cater then Glen Grove is ideal and well positioned for the subway.

The Rosemont's way better than the Yonge St suites.

We initially booked into the Yonge Street property because it was closer to my dad's place but we bailed when we saw the room. Too "heritage" and too "cozy". We called the hotel management and inquired about their downtown property, The Rosemont, but was told that the 2 bedroom suite would not be available until Monday (3 nights later). We stayed at Novotel North York until Monday when it became available and stayed there for 1 week.
The Rosemont's located one block away from the CN Tower and only a few from Queen Street so the kids had a great time shopping. The trouble is getting in and out of downtown during rush hours but we managed. We were late a few times for our appointments due to the traffic but it's just the way it is when it's downtown Toronto.
We found the room shabbily cleaned when we arrived. Hair on the floor and dusty so my husband had to call to have the room cleaned again. The Internet hook up is not wireless and it took 2 hours for the management to set it up. Something about Rogers not letting them use a modem from another suite, etc, etc. The kids found the remote controls with the batteries stripped by the previous guests and fresh batteries were brought in the next day.
The master bedroom has a queen bed and large enough to accommodate a cot with room to spare. The second bedroom has a double bed and lots of closets throughout the suite. The bathrooms are bright and modern, one with a tub and the other with shower. The in-suite laundry is in the second bathroom and a feature that we loved since we're a family of 5 on the road for 3 weeks. The kitchen is nice except they only provide the guests with two pots, one small and one medium. No frying pan! They don't provide dish soap and I think whatever were there were left by previous guests. (salt but no pepper in their shakers). The sofas looked worn around the edges but they were adequate. However they sprayed the room and the cushions with some kind of strong air freshener that triggered my asthma. I stayed clear of the sofas after that. Upon entering the suite, we were knocked back by a strong repulsive scent, cleaning fluid perhaps?, it never did go away so we suffered with that for the entire week. Fortunately it was only at the doorway or maybe we just got used to it.
Maid service is once a week on Wednesdays. They wash the bath towels right in the suite so when I came back to a wrinkled slightly damp towel, I thought they were still the used towels. The maid also failed to replenish shampoos, soaps and extra toilet papers. Dusting and thorough cleaning probably isn't her strong point because I also spotted a used kleenex behind a sofa from previous guests. I found it when I moved the sofa to open the patio door to air out the stench. Yes, we have a balcony in the suite but we couldn't get to it because a love seat's placed in front of it.
Our room faced the back of the building and every couple of days, we had to listen to garbage truck flipping dumpsters at 7 a.m. and there were quite a few due to the restaurants. Noisy!
With all that said, It was more than adequate for our stay in Toronto. The building has a security desk and getting in and out of the parkade requires a card. Starbucks' around the corner and Tim Hortons one block away.
Pros: downtown location, the price was right, in-suite laundry, the size of the bedrooms, the bathrooms, the bright kitchen. Modern fixtures.
Cons: downtown location! housekeeping details! burnt out light bulb in bathroom can be changed during cleaning, a broken clip on the blinds. A dirty mop in bucket in the hallway closet. These things can all be fixed but they weren't. The main contact (front desk), as helpful as he is, is at the Yonge Street property so there isn't much they can do for you if service's required after certain time of the day.
If you had severe dog allergy, don't stay here. I've never seen so many dogs in one spot before. They're well behaved and clean but they're still dogs! Torontonian love their dogs!
