Myself and my husband stayed there 6th of July for 3 nights. It is a nice clean place with friendly staff. The room was a nice size and clean, as was the en-suite. The breakfast was a buffet you could have as much of what ever you wanted. It is in a brillant location only 5 -10 min walk to castle, city centre. But there is a bus stop only a min away that u can get into city. There are loads of nice bars near it and places to eat. Would highly recommended it and will be going back to stay there when we go back to Edinburgh next year.

I stayed at Herald House Hotel at the beginning of June, as I was passing through Edinburgh and needed somewhere to stay overnight. My room was small but clean, the en-suite shower room was easily the smallest I've ever seen, but perfectly functional. My only gripe was the size of the bed - it was a small single, and I'm taller than the average bear, so was convinced that I was going to fall out of it during the night. As a result, I didn't sleep that well. The curtains on the window weren't that good, and when dawn broke around 4 am, I woke with the light that was coming into the bedroom. A good blackout blind wouldn't go wrong. Breakfast was okay; bacon, sausage, egg (scrambled, fried), baked beans, tomato and mushroom on the hot plate and cereals and yogurt, along with grapefruit and bread rolls on the rest of the display. Coffee and hot water for tea are from a machine. Does the job though.

A "find". Booked through Hotelopia.co.uk at discounted rate (rack rate of ?170+ is prohibitive) Excellent breakfast (chef was P&O trained). Good bus links to city centre, Holyrood House and RY Britannia. A few minutes from new Conference Centre but no parking

was a bit worried at first when we got off train at haymarket but when we got to hotel was happy. the staff were very friendly and helpful,the room was very clean and was cleaned everyday we were there.the breakfast wasexcellant and they refilled the coffee and tea everyday.its only a 10-15 min walk to centre and there is a frequent bus at end of road,all together a fantastic break

Stayed two nights at the Herald House for my birthday. Rooms clean and tidy with a decent bathroom though I couldn't get the shower to work properly (my bloke managed it so must have been a blonde thing!) Paid ?118 for the 2 of us for 2 nights which included breakfast. Bit outside the city centre, but bus stop literally 1 min walk away which gave us buses to Princes St about every 5 mins. Breakfast was self service so able to have as much or as little as you wanted (great for a hangover when you need a really BIG cooked breakfast!). Cereals, yoghurts, meat and cheese also available - wonderful cappuchino, best I've ever had out of a machine. No parking at the hotel (which we did know about when we booked) but able to park at NCH car park at bottom of road (5-10 mins walk slightly uphill) at a cost of just under ?8 per day. There were a few late night revellers returning on the Saturday night which woke me up for a few minutes, but to me that's to be expected in any city hotel. Overall, really enjoyed my stay, wouldn't hesitate to return to the same hotel. Thanks for reading, hope this helps and enjoy your stay in Edinburgh!
