We stayed at the Moana Surfrider for three nights on our honeymoon...we arrived fairly late in the evening after traveling from Newark, so we were exhausted. However, the lobby, check-in service, cold drink/lei, and sound of the beach was completely refreshing. As SPG members, we were upgraded to a banyon courtyard "ocean-view" room, and were so excited. However, we were kind of disappointed to see that the room was tiny. In fact, it was the SMALLEST hotel room I've ever stayed in! There was barely enough room to walk around the bed- the remainder of the room was taken up by the king bed. We had to make an effort to pack up our items every day just so that we didn't feel so cramped. The bathroom was similarly small. That was really our only complaint, though, and since we were on our way to Kauai in just a few days, we didn't feel like trying to change our room. Everything was of Westin standards- the bed, toiletries, cleanliness, etc. Although we could hear the courtyard entertainment at night, it seemed to end by about 10 or 11pm so it never disrupted our sleep. We sometimes left the windows open in order to hear the crashing of the ocean waves, which was lovely. We had two meals in the courtyard, both of which were good, and one breakfast buffet (which was great). I would also recommend getting takeout from one of the local dives (like Rainbow Drive In) and bringing it back to the courtyard to eat (there were great chairs with tables on the veranda). The beach was supercrowded and the pool was small, but we did a lot of our water activities off site so it didn't really affect us. The staff was great, and very responsive (they came quickly when we had troubles with our safe).
The only other thing is that I wish we had more towels, since we took multiple showers a day with snorkeling. Although- I'm not sure if there would have been room for them!
As a previous poster stated, the fact that our room was TINY was made more okay because we were paying for the room mostly with points. If we had paid full price, we definitely would have asked for a larger room. It was THAT small.

We stayed here over a quick weekend trip for my brothers wedding. We stayed in the main building. Of course, it is very impressive when you drive up and you can't beat being on the ocean. Room was a bit small, but well worth it to stay at a historical landmark in a nice Honolulu location.

I can't imagine a better place to stay. The lobby was nice but what really makes this the "place to stay" is the Banyon courtyard. The hotel is shaped like a "U". In the middle is a Banyon tree that is amazing looking. Around the tree, is the bar, pool and the retuarant - all with a view of the beach and ocean. You feel like your in Georgia. This is where we had breakfast and dinner and drinks.
Right in front of the hotel is a little private beach. You have to make reservations for the chairs by 1pm the day before and be there by 9am the day of to sit. The only downside is that if you leave for more than 1.5 hours, you could lose the chairs. Having said that, the guys who control this are very cool and give some leway.
The rooms are ok, nothing great but I agree with other reviewers to stay in the tower. We were in room 892 and the view made up for the room. We saw straight down the coastline to Diamond Head and I can not imagine a better view. You could hear the music from downstaries all the way up in our room but it was still worth it. The music was a guy playing and singing with a guitar.
Until the Pink Hotel is done, I highly recommned this place. Also, everybody that worked there were very friendly.
