I just returned from a stay at the Westin Embassy Row and it was nice. We spent 4 days in D.C. and one night at this hotel. We booked this hotel using Hilton points and stayed at another Hilton property for the other 3 nights (Homewood Suites). I traveled with my husband and two young children (7 and 5).
The hotel is currently undergoing renovations (it is a historic property) and the normal check-in desk and front door are currently closed. We were greeted at the Ballroom door by valet staff and shown into the ballroom. Part of the ballroom is being used as the front desk. The staff was very nice and offered a wonderful recommendation for dinner (Pizza Paradiso which is on P street just around the corner from the hotel - the food was wonderful but get there early -before 8pm - because they get very busy and the dining room is small).
The hotel is directly across the street from the Indian embassy (and a cool statute of Ghandi) and within walking distance of several other embassies. It is also within walking distance of a nice business district with lots of shopping and resturants.
We received an upgraded room which was a nice surprise.
The room was large with a King bed, sitting area and pull out sofa. There was a large flat screen plasma TV which could be positioned to either watch while on the sofa or bed. The bathroom was very nice and spacious.
We noticed the air conditioning fan was running constantly and it was quite cold in the room. We turned it off and changed it to turn on only when it went above a certain temperature and then we learned the real reason the fan was on - it was covering the noise from our next door neighbors. The walls between rooms seem very thin. Our room was positioned internally so we didn't hear any street noise but the noise of our next door neighbors was noticeable and they weren't being overly noisy.
The hotel was offering free continential breakfast during our stay (it normally costs $13.75/per person). It was standard fare: coffee/juice/milk, crossiants, danish, granola, cereal, fresh fruit and yogurt. The service during breakfast was very good. I do feel the breakfast at Homewood suites was better and they offered hot food but the ambiance in the Westin was superior.
It is a very nice hotel and I'd love to visit again after they complete the renovation. Very nice hotel with excellent service. Side note: having the valet retrieve our car the morning of check out took about 15 minutes and we were the only ones waiting. Not sure why it was delayed (we called down from our room about 5 minutes before we came downstairs) but the valet was apologetic.

The Westin at Embassy Row is a fantastic place to stay. The hotel was just recently renovated. It is extremely clean and decorated beautifully. The rrom is equipped with large screen plasm tv and the matress is extremely comfortable. We felt at home. We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights and loved coming back to the room each night after a long day of sight seeing. We stayed in a suite and had lots of room for a family of three. The regular rooms would be just fine for a business trip but if you are coming to see the city get a suite and ask for a view. The hotel staff was very friendly and eager to please. They appologized for the construction that is taking place in other parts of the hotel, but we did not notice or hear anything. We ordered room service two nights and had the best meals of our stay. The metro is an easy walk a street away at Dupont circle, and we were pleasantly surprised to find a Krispy Keme donut shop close by! We felt very safe and the area is very pretty. We loved DC. May was the perfect time to visit for the weather was perfect at 72. Don't forget to contact your congressman in advance to tour the capital and the whitehouse. It is an amazing experience. Ignore any other prior review for the recent renovations make this the best little secret in the city. The managment and the staff are top notch and we give it a five star experience!

The hotel is in a great location and Dupont Circle was a lot of fun. However the hotel is still working out the kinks in its construction and our room's plumbing was completely out of whack. The cold water tap in the sink and the shower had PIPING HOT STEAMING WATER and the hot water tap had the same. Needless to say we scalded ourselves bathing and washing up. The handyman advised us to "let the water run" and then jump in the shower. The front desk would not change our room but did send up a bowl of fruit. Whatever you do, do not stay in ROOM 514. The room, bed, TV and staff were otherwise very nice. However, I am very disappointed that this hotel is considered a Westin.

My husband and I stayed at the Westin Embassy Row for a 1st anniversary weekend getaway at the DC Cherry Blossom festival.
Overall, we really loved the hotel - the decor was very classy. Our room was tastefully decorated in a reproduction colonial style, and though very small, was just fine for two people, which is clearly what the room was intended for. The bed was truly heavenly, with spotless white linens and feather pillows and blankets. As previous reviews noted, the fan for the AC is very loud, but didn't keep us awake at night.
The bathroom was also very small, but had nice marble tile. Our room did not have a bathtub, but the shower stall was glass-enclosed and spacious. We did have some trouble controlling the water temperature in the shower - it was scalding hot at times, but if we let it run long enough then the temperature improved and was tolerable.
We both enjoyed the continental breakfast - they have a great assortment of pastries, fresh fruit and berries, yogurt, and various cereals to choose from. We did not try any of the items from the menu in the restaurant and did not order room service so we can't really comment.
Overall, I would say this hotel is a good value (we paid around 100$ a night) and is in a great location, close to a Metro stop, as well as all the fun and attractions of Dupont circle. The staff was excellent - very attentive, and quick to help if any problems arise. Check-in and check-out went smoothly, and while the lobby is very tiny, they had no problems storing our luggage for the day after we had checked out and planned to attend several more events.

This classic-style hotel put us into a fresh, clean, and comfortable room that afforded us a beautiful view of the Washington Monument from our 8th Floor corner location. The $160/night deal we found on hotels.com made this stay a bargain. Having stayed at both the Westin Grand and the Westin Embassy Row, we prefer Embassy Row for its outstanding location.
The lobby is small and simple. The style is classic, bordering on fuddy-duddy. Overall, though, the atmosphere is relaxed, the staff is friendly and the housekeeping is well-run.
Some pluses:
- The location is ideal. Restaurants, coffee houses, parks, metro stations, shopping all are walking distance. It's also a relatively tranquil neighborhood.
- Very pet friendly. Our four legged traveler received complimentary bowls, treats and scratches from the attentive staff.
A few nits:
- As of May 2008. the hotel was still undergoing renovation so large sections were closed, as were some amenities like ice machines (room service will deliver for free).
- One of the elevators was closed for renovation during our stay, burdening the sole working elevator with double duty. The space at the elevator lobby is quite cramped.
- The Wi-Fi internet service was terrible. We lost connections, had freeze-ups. When connected, the speed felt like dial-up. The hotel refunded the charges to us, but we still had to schlep over to Starbucks next door to get connected.
All-in-all, terrific hotel. We'll stay there again and we'll recommend it to others.
