This hotel is close to the beach, 30 minutes from the airport, 15 minute drive to the beach. It is conveniently located near the major highways and we found it very easy to get around this area; if you're there for the beaches, the A1A will be your best friend:) Hubby was there on business but the first couple of days we toodled around-fun place & beautiful! Hotel: great check-in, great breakfast buffet, nice & clean indoor/outdoor pool & soundproof rooms. The rooms in the rear overlook a beautiful golf course - rooms are average size and clean. Nice business office with use of two computers & a printer and a nice but small fitness center. This is near the Mayo Clinic & heavily advertised as such so you may see a patient here and there walking around in their jammies but I just had compassion for them, it didn't ruin our stay at all. There is a Ruby Tuesday and Publix grocery store in the same strip mall area, a 2-minute walk. We are from California & may never return but if we do, we will be staying here!

Really liked this hotel, stayed here on a Saturday and Sunday Night.
Very welcoming hotel with a friendly atmosphere. A bit far out of Jacksonville but handy for Jacksonville beach. There is a Publix hypermarket right outside which is useful for getting picnic stuff before heading out for the day. There is also a Ruby Tuesday's right opposite but we had eaten elsewhere.
The hotel is new and everything in the room was in good condition and clean. Internet access, by ethernet or wireless was good. There is a safe and a fridge in the room. There is a fitness centre with three pieces of apparatus and a good pool.
Breakfast was good with some hot food available.
Altogether a good stay.

We stayed here because of the reviews I read. My daughter was competiting in a dance competition nearby and I needed something economical that would fit in my budget.
This is the first time I stayed at a Wingate Hotel. There was a birthday party underway, and the staff told me that the music was to stop at 10PM, which it did. I stayed on the 5th floor. The hotel was extremely quite. I did not hear anyone in the hallways. I have stayed in different hotels (Embassy Suites) and have heard a lot of noises and lots of light illuminating through my door....Wingate in Jacksonville, Mayo Clinic area did not have that at all. It was just a pleasant quite stay, and I will stay here again in April...which is my next planned trip to Jacksonville.
Parking:
There was plenty of parking, free of charge. At first I thought that my GPS system guided me to the wrong place (a strip-mall area). My daughter was saying "there's goes Tom, Tom again...getting us lost). As a drove further into the strip mall and past Publix, there it was nestled in the corner. Publix of course is in walking distance, and there was plenty of nearby places to eat.
Lobby:
Hotel lobby was clean. the staff was efficient, and processed us quickly.
Room:
We stayed in a double suite. The room smelled very clean and fresh. It actually looked brand new. I did not have the urge to run to publix to buy lysol or bleach (after watching 20/20 about hotel cleanliness etc., you do get a little nervous). I was very comfortable and relaxed here. The bed mattresses were great. I fell asleep quickly and woke up only when the alarm went off. There were plenty of pillows There was a nice size refrigerator, microwave and a one-cup coffee maker, with coffee, and tea available. The room was spacious. The bathroom was also very clean with no unpleasant smells, and there was no mildrew or scum in the shower/bath area. The water was very hot so be careful, but it was fantastic for those who care for a nice hot shower, like myself!
Breakfast.
This area was located adjacent the lobby/check in area. you can view the indoor/outdoor pool from this site. No continential breakfast here. Scramble eggs, bacon, batter so you can make your own waffles. There was a variety of pastries and breads to chose from, coffee, juice etc.... Great for the price.
It turned out to be a great stay.

This hotel which caters to patients and relatives staying at the nearby Mayo Clinic, went from a wonderful stay Mon -Thurs to an absolute zoo on Friday evening. They book sports teams, etc, (many teenagers) for weekends with no respect to their solid customers from the Mayo Clinic. Literally until after 11:30 pm, the hotel allowed these teen agers to raise hell, they simply refused to get stern with them and end it. I was going to stay through Saturday but checked out and found another hotel. If you stay, leave before the weekend or ask about groups that might be there on Fri and Sat as they don't care to attend to problems,

This was our first stay at a Wingate. The hotel was modern and clean throughout. The room (our was a handicap) was roomy with comfortable bedding, free high speed (wireless or wired), microwave, refrigerator, single cup coffee maker, and a safe. Breakfast was a little above continental with eggs, sausage, and self-serve waffle iron. The hotel is within walking distance of Ruby Tuesday's and another restaurant and Publix. Only one very minor complaint: the USA Today was promised to be delivered to the door was only discovered later by the elevators. The entrance is a little deceiving if you enter from Hodges Blvd. We missed the entrance on our first approach and had to go down JTButler to the next exit (Mayo exit), turn around and come back to Hodges. It was a great stay and we will be back.
