This is an OK Wingate. The room was clean but the breakfast was weak. I have only stayed in one other Wingate (Fredericksburg, VA) and there is no comparison between the two. The VA location was superior to the Florence location. If you need a place to sleep and don't have high expectations for breakfast, this will do. The rate was very good however and for the money, not a bad deal at all.

We stayed at other Wingates, and this one is the worst. Keep in mind that the Wingate really is a step above the other chains. The rooms are spacious and they have free internet and local/long distance calling. Here is what I didn't like about the one in Florence.
1)The gym walls are falling apart and the machines are broken
2)No indoor pools
3)The whirlpool was DIRTY
It's still probably better than the others.

This was our first stay at a Wingate, and we were delighted at the quality of this hotel chain. The lobby offered a few freebies we didn't expect: cookies, USA Today, and a new-release romance novel. Now, the novel wouldn't appeal to everyone, but we were on our way to FL for a cruise, and it was perfect for vacation reading. Our room had a bit of a perfumy smell but was spotless, well decorated, and comfortable. The hotel is across the street from railroad tracks, but we were on the side of the building on the 2nd floor and didn't hear any trains, traffic, or even noise in the hall. The beds were very comfortable. The breakfast buffet in the morning was slightly better than most hotel chains. It offered cereals, yogurt, waffles, bagels, juices, coffee, and pastries. We went to breakfast just as it was supposed to be ending, and there were quite a few other guests there. We were surprised that the bar was still well stocked and remained so while we were there, despite it being past closing time. Overall, this was a great stay, and I'd highly recommend it for I-95 travelers.

My family and I stayed at Wingate on Sept. 4th 2005. The room was clean and the breakfast was good. My family enjoyed the stay. The next time we visit family in Florence, SC we're going to stay at Wingate Hotel.

The room at this inn appeared clean, but small, and the bathroom was cramped. We ended up on the ground floor next to the exit which was noisy with people entering and exiting. However, we weren't disturbed during sleeping hours. The inn is near the railroad, and we heard trains moving through a couple times in the evening. We were disapponted with the breakfast bar as there were few choices, and the coffee was flavorless. We would prefer a larger, brighter room and will look for other accommodations when passing through Florence on our next trip from FL to PA.
