We stayed here in March for two nights so we could visit the Pandas. i expect that is high on most peoples 'must do's' when in Chengdu. The hotel is clean and modern if a little idiosyncratic in design, but very nice and made me smile.
The room was large well furnished with a good sized bathroom. The separate shower is a glass walled affair projecting into the room, interesting in that you can lie in bed and watch your significant other shower -a great way to start or end the day! Unfortunately this layout also means you can see the toilet as well - not how I want to start my day.
The room was also equipped with a PC for internet access, when the instructions didn't work a helpful member of staff logged me in with administrative rights, lucky for them I'm honest.
Breakfast was OK, lots of choice, both western and eastern, poor coffee service and on both mornings we were there the staff really wanted you to eat up, and get on your way. They did no more than the minimum necessary, I had to ask for coffee refills, plates were not cleared etc.
This was the attitude with the majority of staff here with one or two notable exceptions, the staff in the Palace Restaurant and the Brasserie in the evening were much more friendly and helpful. I reserve special mention for the staff in the Lobby bar, maybe I caught them on a couple of bad nights but they were surly, and unfriendly. Getting the first drink was easy, getting their attention for a second was almost impossible. I'm sure they were not helped by the over-loud singing duo performing on both occasions.
In short I liked the hotel building, and the food was good. Some of the staff were excellent the rest need to improve. Would I stay here again? Maybe, but more likely i would try the Shangri La which is nearer the pedestrian market and Wohoo temple, a place I highly recommend visiting.

I got an executive room and it was large, beautifully decorated, comfy bed, huge flat screen TV etc. 1 of the nicest looking hotels Ive stayed in. However, it was really noisy with traffic from the road outside, (I was on the 13th floor), to the point where I found it hard to sleep. As I was staying in an executive room,I was told I could have complementary cocktails served with snacks in Club Sofitel on the 23rd floor. I went there and was told I could only have a soft drink as they didnt have any cocktails, and there was no snacks. Not important but I was disappointed. The worst thing about this hotel is the food, and the service isnt great either. I got a club sandwich that was around 60RMB, for that price I could get a great sandwich back home. The ham in it was so disgusting that it was inedible. The buffet breakfast was also really bad compared to other hotels, and again I found a couple of things inedible. I stayed in the Sofitel in Ho Chi Minh City last week and that was far far better.

Our stay here was fantastic, from the huge clean beautiful room to the service. Any request we had, for more bottled water or for more pillows for example, was filled within 3 minutes. I actually timed it! The bed was the most comfortable we've ever slept in.The location was perfect, alongside a river with a fantastic river walk, and was central to stores and restaurants. Staying here has made me interested in staying in other Sofitel hotels in other countries, to see if they measure up to this one. I heartily recommend staying here.
Ever hear of this before?????

After checking out and paying the bill, we were all set to leave but hotel staff stopped our taxi. For what??? Hotel duvet cover is white -- and they said it was dirty so charged us an additional fee. Perhaps a suitcase left a smudge of dirt but it certainly was not much since I didn't even notice it. . White duvet covers/sheets should be washed on a regular basis without an extra fee. I tried to negotiate a bargain so we would not have to pay this fee since the water in the shower was only lukewarm and I feel that canceled out the fee for the mark on the duvet cover but the hotel would not agree. We will not stay here again.
