Great pool view, only negative side is that the sun at the pool ends very early cuz the hotel building covers the sun of the pool. So u have to leave and cross the street to go to the beach and get tanned.
Rooms are very nice, clean, complete, nice bathroom and great shower. Great views since it?s located in the best part of Copacabana beach. I live in Rio so I know the location well, u can easily walk from there to Ipanema beach or Leblon beach, both great, actually better than Copacabana for ppl who live in Rio.
I just loved the experience in this hotel and would surely recomend to my best friend or mom and dad, so go and ask for a room with beach view ! It?s dazzling. Personal staff very nice. Cannot complain about anything but the building covering the sun in the hotel pool...

I stayed here for two days on business.
Best view imaginable from the breakfast terrace. - Sugarloaf in the distance with the Copacabana right in front - amazing!
My room was sumptuous - amazingly comfortable bed and a rain-shower. Very Relaxing and special.
The bar has a wonderful view of the Copacabana beach and serves great cocktails. There are huge comfortable sofas to lounge on - pure luxury.
The hotel seemed very efficient and professionally run.

The sofitel Rio de Janiero is in a very good location between cococabana beach and Impanema
The rooms are very nice and the beds the most comfortable I have had in a hotel
The view from the terrace is great , however the noise from the street is somewhat hectic (but that is something one has to be prepared for no matter where they stay in Rio)
The hotel food is excellent, breakfasts were great with a wide variety of foods to choose from
The service is ok - I felt that the staff could be a little friendlier there was only one staff member who really interested in helping toursists
Overall a good stay - the price of rooms if booked at the hotel itself and not through thier website or another booking website is astronomical so be sure to book before you go
The french restuarant in the hotel - although pricey is exellent

Sofitel Rio is really great, nice rooms, very comfortable beds, nice breakfast (especially fruit choice is fantastic!) and delicious buffet lunch. But when the hotel is full - that due to being a popular hotel often happens - you might be unlucky enough and get a room on the 2nd floor that is not refurbished. They are noisy, ugly, maybe clean but feeling very dirty and stinking (especially bathroom), with worn out furnitures and not so comfortable beds. As they are also called "standard rooms", as well as the other standard but refurbished rooms, it may happen that you get one of them. Reception staff however is very friendly and helpful, so if you ask them to change your room, they try to solve your problem. The room nr. 219 is certainly an old one (terrible...). I think that when the hotel is not full, rooms of the lower floors are given to guests (2nd and 3rd floor), while the rooms on the upper floors (5th, 6th, ...) are definitely less used and better conserved than the lower ones. That's what we experienced in April 2008 (based on the experience of our group with 20 rooms).
So if you book rooms for a whole group, try to clear this in advance!
If you want a less noisy room, try to ask for those ones that are above the "afternoon pool". All new rooms however have a double door to the balcony which keep a perfect silence.
Anyway, Sofitel Rio is a really nice hotel, I would recommend it to anyone!
