Cecil best location..
Guest name: XXXAsia, Asia
Wonderful location.. was very glad that our first choice El Samalek was full - way too far out of town, overly smart & uninviting place (dinner jackets required etc). At Cecil, recommend upper floor , sea view room NB we had booked sea view room via their website for our 3 night stay but were initially shown a very small room overlooking the park.. however after much challenging we were given the Agatha Christie room on 5th floor with double aspect and harbour view to die for! Altho reception staff friendly, its definately worth challenging them to show you better rooms.
Hotel restaurant not great.. but short stagger recommended to Cab D'Or Bar (4 Adib Street) for wonderful 1920's atmosphere, tasty tapas like meals and great Alexandrian wine. Also Brazilian Coffee Store for best capuccinos is very close. And in nice weather, a stroll down the Corniche to the Fish Market is a must (in season book a table in advance tel 4805114)!
Word of warning.. lock up yr valuables.. I lost my lovely gold signet ring there which I had hidden in my make up bag but only found out after we left Alex.
Faded

Existing in the past (Agatha Christie, Winston Churchill et al stayed here). Nothing bad to report but nothing to get excited about apart from a lift which said 'Do not use in case of Fire or Earthquake' . Room suite was very big but noisy. Amenties and breakfast OK. Roof terrace lacked any class. Would try somewhere else next time but not guaranteed to be better !
Very poor
Guest name: topsmed, belgium
Terrible: very poor service, antiquated rooms (windows that do not open, broken furniture, old beds, etc.), dated bathrooms. The breakfast buffet was adequate (with horrendous service) but the Chinese restaurant on the roof is a joke.
I went to the "health club" on the top floor for my daily fitness routine and could not believe what I saw: a few broken fitness machines, a dirty sauna and massage room!
For business I occasionally stay at the Sofitels because they mostly offer good value for money. This hotel is the worst Sofitel I have ever been to: officially four stars, really more like two stars.
Next time I am in Alexandria, I will stay at the new Four Seasons.
