There are three wings here - or at least there were in January. The Pavillion Wing is good, the Old Winter Palace shabby chic, the New Winter Palace should be avoided.
There is mention of 'it's due to be demolished/renovated' whatever .... but it's still there.
The foyer smells of cigarette smoke - it's ingrained in the decor and the soft furnishings are 'shiny' with use. The bedroom was large but the carpet stained & beyond repair - I felt sorry for the cleaner who was doing his best but it's a loosing battle.
The only good part is the Pool - fantastic and there is always an attendant to show you to your sun bed & provide the complimentary pool towel. The a la carte restaurants are very good - and not expensive.
Try the Sonesta St George - just around the corner - even the locals recommend it.

There are so many people on this sight giving advice when they have no idea what they are talking about.... There is 'advice' about booking balloons direct with the hotel because it's cheaper.... We done this only last week and ended up in hospital... check the internet it's all on there..... So advice givers.... Are you going to compensate me? No I thought not, if I'd gone through my holiday company I'd have a claim for the experience I had... Well if I'd gone with my holiday company it would not have happened in the first place.... You are all so good about complaining about hard working people, now I'm complaining about you!
