I agree - this hotel is a stain on the Sofitel brand name although not for the prices charged! For a developing country, the prices are RIDICULOUS. Like 5 euros for a bottle of water Staff are good and friendly, even when they are trying to sell you Senegalese currency (that was a room service maid). The jewel is the pool, and if you don't care about value for money or being ripped off, then it's worth the stay just for that. The mini-bar is locked, but it's an African lock ;-) ... and there are a few items inside!! Wow, the hot water is actually hot! I have stayed in better places, in richer countries, for less than a third of the price. But what choice is there in Dakar? Find a better place to go, yes ...

Just returned from vacationing & a pilgrimage to Africa. The hotel was wonderful - very upscale and services offered were very nice. The hotel offered a sparkling pool and was right at the oceans edge. Our room overlooked this scene that included flowering bouganivillea & tropical natural landscaping.
The staff was very attentive, caring and respectful. We had a great brunch every morning that we were there. Would stay again and recommend it highly.
February weather - it was hot but not unbearable, had a few cool days also.

Rooms on the smallish side, but pleasant nonetheless. Did get locked out on the terrace at 2:30 a.m. Interior self locking doors, be forewarned! Did manage to yell to the street and had a security guard up to open the door within a few minutes.A decent location and clean and friendly, a nice oasis of peace and calm. Breakfast was pleasant, and staff efficient and friendly. The only place to stay in Dakar.

I stayed at the Meridien(supposedly the poshest), and the Sofitel in Dakar, and would recommend Sofitel first. The staff were all very helpful, and the setting which is central but overlooks the se
a is unbeatable for a city hotel. The rooms are good ...(my bathroom could have done with a bit of a refurb )and the common areas including
a generous sized pool are all excellent.
Rude staff, threadbare rooms

I stayed at the Teranga for three days for work. Right after checking in, I went to my room to put some documents and valuables in the room safe, but it was broken. When I complained about it to the staff, they became very aggressive and told me there could be nothing done to fix it and there was nowhere to store my valuables. Then, when I asked to be moved to a room with a working safe, they told me there were no more rooms even though people were still checking in. They ignored me when I asked to speak to a manager.
The room had seen better days, it was rather shabby and the bed was uncomfortable and the linens were threadbare. The minibar was nothing but an empty refrigerator. The only thing to recommend this hotel was the location. Don't eat in the overpriced restaurant, find one of the local restaurants nearby instead.
