I booked a stay at this hotel, and after double checking the location sent off a cancellation request. I sent it 4 days before my arrival. Having not gotten a response to the email I sent another request to cancel and asked for a confirmation (3 days prior to arrival hotel policy on the website says you can cancel without charge 24 hours or more before arrival). On their website, there is only an 800# that I can not use from Andorra, so I could not call to cancel. I ended up staying at the Sheraton instead, because the location was better for me.
Here is where it gets creepy. I was charged for the room, and I disputed the charge. They claimed that I checked in at 3:48pm to room 225 and check out the next day at 6:25pm. First, my flight was not scheduled to arrive at LAX until after 9pm - so there is no way I could have checked in before my flight got in. Second what hotel lets you check out at 6:25pm without paying for a second day?
They absolutely lied, and deliberately ignored my cancellation requests. This is still currently in dispute, since I supposedly stayed there, I asked to produce my signature since if I stayed there they would have. They will not be able to produce that since I know I wasn't there.

I found this hotel through Expedia, but have stayed many many times since and booked directly. Dave (GM) and the other staff have constantly gone out of their way to accomodate my sometimes unorthodox travel needs.
I commute extremely frequently between the NYC and LA metropolitan areas due to business and chose Pasadena because I personally like the area. This hotel has extremely reasonable rates for a small business executive and it is located very close to old-town Pasadena.
The reason I keep coming back to this hotel is not the location or the price, but the inherent value. The service is great, the amenities are excellent and the cleanliness is exactly what a hotel should offer.
I highly recommend this hotel for your next trip. Do yourself a favor and don't use orbitz or expedia, call them directly, save yourself money and allow them to give you the best room possible.

Despite dealing personally with the Vagabond and booking a non-smoking room with a king bed - - two weeks early, we arrived to find our reservation was for a smoking room with a queen bed. The desk clerk then gave us a queen, non-smoking room but we were so disappointed by the tiny, dimly lit room that we asked to be moved to another room The desk clerk finally put us in a room with two queens - better than one! But again, this room was so dark that it was impossible to read our books. (One dim overhead light and one dim table lamp - - totally inadequate for reading or doing any kind of paperwork.) The room faced the parking lot so we spent a noisy night. The promised "morning newspaper outside the room" never materialized. All we wanted to do was get out of there and find something lighter, brighter and more comfortable. We found Vagabond Inn on the internet and felt that the pictures and write-up were overstated. Would we try Vagabond again? No. The only thing going for this motel is the central location.
What a difference a year makes.

I had stayed at the Vagabond Inn in Pasadena about a year ago and I was not impressed at all. However, on my recent visit I was simply amazed on how nice the room was. I actually think I got the same room that I had the year before.
This time when I walked in the room had completely changed. It had beautiful furniture, and new carpeting and it looked like they spent some money really updating the place. In fact, I could not believe they had flat screen high definition televisions as well as over 100 channels. I was able to watch the Sunday Night football game: Patriots/Ravens in HD and that was an awesome experience because I have never seen a football game in High Definition before.
For the price, it wasn't a bad deal at all, and I've stayed at almost every budget hotel in Pasadena. The only downers about the place are the construction, and the lack of enough smoking rooms (I was given a non-smoking room).

We came to this place and enjoyed ourselves more than we thought we would. There was alot of remodeling going on but we managed to get one of the newly remodeled rooms so that was a nice thing. New carpets, new television, new furniture, it was a very nice experience. it was not a hilton, but it was not a motel 6. i would definently come back and stay here again!
