This hotel was booked for me last minute by my company. As a result I had not time to check reviews but have to say this place was lovely. It was ideally located for me and I had a room on the ground floor overlooking the canal with a little balcony. The bed was very comfortable, there was lots of storage space which would be great if you were there more than 1 night as I was. Breakfast is a choice of cold continental or full english and they have other options made to order. Although I did not eat there the bar and restaurant were cosy and welcoming which also overlooked the canal. I found the receptionist staff friendly and helpful.

We stayed there for a wedding and have nothing but good things to say about the hotel.
A great check-in with 2 keys provided, then up to a wonderful room with balcony overlooking the canal.
Bed was outstanding, with an LCD tv, great decor and spotlessly clean.
Bathroom also good with underfloor heating a lovely touch.
Breakfast the next morning was great and as vegetarians, the sausages they cooked specially for us were a nice bonus.
As good an overnight hotel stay as I've ever experienced in the UK.

We 100% recommend this hotel - everything was superb. We were made welcome upon arriving by a polite, pleasant Receptionist ... she answered all of our questions amicably and offered more information of her own accord. The room was sumptous and such a gorgeous canal-side setting - we didn't want to leave :-) SO clean too - it was fantastic.
We ate in the Restaurant, as we have done on many previous occasions - this speaks for itself dont you think?!
We had no qualms about our visit to the Conservatory for Breakfast - staff were friendly, smiley, polite and courteous and food was very tasty.
All in all a thoroughly enjoyable experience and urge any prospective customers to partake in what the Lion Quays has to offer 100%!

Website advises that they have" a whole floor designed specifically for female guests". It seems strange therefore that as a lone female guest I was allocated a groundfloor room overlooking the canal and not a first floor room where I would have felt safer leaving a window open!!Reception staff have not altered their attitude since a 2006 review and are not what is expected of a 4star hotel.NO welcome NO enquiry over whether I would like to book a table in the restaurant and the following morning the receptionist was rather abrupt.NO request as to whether everything was to my satisfaction during my stay and not even a "goodbye and hope you will stay with us again." On the plus side the room was a good size with a pleasant view,a wonderfully comfortable bed and the room and bathroom were very clean My restaurant meal was good and the waitress attentive. At present I would say that this has an upmarket Motel feel. With lots of building work going on in the grounds I hear that they are hoping to increase their star staus-this will not happen without change of staff attitude and it would be a shame as in this location it has so much going for it

I have stayed here at least 8 times in the last 18 months so don't know why I haven't yet left a review! My return visits say enough!
The rooms are usually great. If it is a special occasion ensure that you ask for a canal view and if the budget strectches ask for a full balcony room ( or a suite!). I have only once had a room that faced the other side of the hotel and it was dark and gloomy
The rooms are a good size and the underfloor heating in the bathroom is lovely - out of a good soak and it still feels comforting! The flat screen tv is good but it could do with some more chanels to make it reach the right star rating.
Breakfast is good - the same excellent waitress has been there most times I've stayed and she makes the restaurant feel very comfortable. Usual choice of fruit, cereal and cooked meals - nothing special but acceptable
Only downside is as mentioned earlier - the reception staff leave a lot to be desired. Not rude but having listened to their conversations they obviously don't need to talk to us for any interest! I was asked if I needed a newspaper/alarm call twice by the same person and when I said she'd already asked me she couldn't remember. Felt I was intruding on their conversation!!
