Hotel has a great lobby and a really nice skybar on the 10th floor. Great views at night of the city wall. The hotel did not have the best breakfast buffett. I went on a tour from Beijing to Xian to Shanghai and this was my least favorite hotel. Also the rooms were dated back in the 60s. The curtains needed to be cleaned and the furniture was dated. Overall it is like an older Holiday Inn in America.

We arrived in Xi’an very late, consequently our initial exposure to this hotel was rather limited the first night. While the lobby was large, modern and impressive, the corridors, all with open balconies to the lobby were a bit shabby (however future travelers should see some improvement as renovations were due to be completed in mid-late August 2007). The rooms were quite small but very clean with an unattractive view of an alley. However, after a full day in 95 degree weather, the beds were heavenly, the air conditioning fantastic and upon waking the next day we could see the location couldn’t be better…we were well situated in this contemporary city, very close to the city wall and shops (Gucci) and restaurants.
Wait staff were attentive and pleasant. Breakfast was adequate. There was a small gift shop that sold basic gifts (we purchased a pair of pajamas with the hotel insignia on it!) and toiletries.
I would definitely stay here again.

If you are interested in being close to the Xian city walls and interiors, the Ana is an excellent choice for its location. However, the entire hotel is very shabby - the rooms, restaurants and lobby. At one point it must have looked great - probably in the 1980's - but now it looks worn and dated. Some things are positively make-shift - like the handwritten posters in the elevators about the restaurants offerings. It's also a haul to the Terracotta Soldiers - the main reason why we went to Xian. On the positive side, the staff is very helpful. I contacted them from the US to arrange for the evening "Tang Dynasty" show and everything was booked and arranged as promised once we got there. By the way, the "Tang" show is quite alright.
