We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was very well located and easy to get to from both St. Mark's Square and the Rialto Bridge. We were encouraged to upgrade to a room with a canal view, which we did because we were told that we might see the gondolas (and the musicians and serenaders) go by under our window. We are so glad that we did - this was actually one of the most memorable moments of our trip (early evening is the best time to catch them)! The staff was pleasant and helpful. I believe that some people mistake the hesitation of the Italians to speak a language other than their own as being rude or unhelpful, when actually they are just doing their best to communicate in a language that they are not comfortable with. The breakfast was as good as other 3 star hotels in Italy. The room and the entire hotel was spotlessly clean. I would definately recommend this hotel to others.

My wife and I just returned from a three night stay at the Hotel Gambero.
We booked a last minute room through their website for 130 Euro per night for a canal view. Our room was on the 3rd floor over the canal and bridge. At first we were worried about the noise from the people on the bridge below, but the windows were thick enough to keep that noise out at night. However, we were awakend early one morning by a delivery boat continuously reving his engine for about 30 minutes on the canal. But other than that, it was quiet. The room was small but adequate for our needs. We found the bed to be very comfortable.
The breakfast was nice. It contained fruit, cereal, juice, bread, yogurt, coffee, tea, etc.
The staff wasn't really that friendly. Not rude, just very "matter of fact."
In summary, we felt the Hotel Gambero is an adequate hotel in a good location. But nothing special.

We are two young italian sisters and we booked this hotel because we went to the international film festival in Venice. We decided to go there just few days before the event so it was hard to find free rooms but luckily we got one in this hotel and we are very happy of this. the hotel is in the centre of Venice, you can easily reach it from the station with the boat ( vaporetto in italian) and anyway many boats are so close and bring you everywhere. By walk you can go to the central St. Marco square and visit many other interesting places surrounding this hotel. The room was very very nice, it has a typical venice style, all the hotel was very typical and a little elegant, we had the breakfast included in the price and it was served in a nice room and was good. The staff was friendly and helped us to reach the place of the festival. If you are going to visit Venice we suggest this hotel, but not if you are a low budget traveller because for us it was quite expensive, even if it deserves the money. Anyway, if you are going to visit Venice be prepared that most of the inhabitants you find on your way when you are visiting are not too kind, at least with italian visitors. But don't worry, enjoy the trip!

Location: We (couple in late twenties) recently stayed at this hotel on a 2 night trip To Venice. The location is great for exploring all the sights, couldn't be better. It is such a small place anyway that it doesn't really matter but it was very well positioned.
Rooms: We had a loevly room but it was in their new section, which did require a lot of steps and would not be good for anyone with walking difficulties. The hallway in the new section is lovely. The rooms were extremely clean. Our room had full venetian trimmings, such as ornate lights and fabrics, even all the walls in this hotel are covered in fabric! There is aircon, hairdryer, bidet, skynews, drinks in the room which all make a difference after a long day walking around Venice. Overall, having stayed in lots of european city break hotels, room 210 was excellent.
Hotel: The breakfast was great. Fresh tea and coffee served to your table and an array of croissants, bread, cakes, yoghurts, cereals and meats. It was served till 10am too.
Overall I would highly recommend this hotel, although not for anyone with walking difficulties.

Having stayed in many Venice hotels it was nice to find a good small hotel that was so central. The staff were helpful and friendly. We booked three single rooms two of them were very comfortable with double beds the third on the top floor was a bit small but OK. The only major problem was the stairs which we knew about. I had 72 steps up and then down to my room - it kept me fit! The breakfast was mediocre but perfectly adequate. All together a comfortable friendly hotel which I would recommend to others. Slightly pricey but single rooms always are. Ideal for a first time visitor to Venice midway between St, Marks and the Rialto.
