I've stayed at at this hotel several times in the pass and was pleasently surpised on my last visit.
On previous stays, I've always experienced courteous staff and clean rooms which has been my reason for returning whenever I'm in Winston Salem.
On this visit I was WOWED. The restaurant had been remodeled and the food was scrumptious, not like typical hotel food I've experienced in other hotels. The lobby which was once drab,
had been redecorated and full of color. My room also had new delightful decor. The Hawthorne Inn is a winner.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel during the furniture market this year. I will start by saying that I have been doing this for years and know that all hotels hike their priced up when they expect full occupancy. This hotel ( I would fell better calling it a motel) should have realized that when you charge the price of a "semi-full service hotel) you should try to relay that to your staff. First of all the hotel WAS NOT clean. I mean the lobby, the parking lot and the front entrance, I knew that I was not going to please before I even got to my room. We waited for 5 minutes or more to be acknowledged in the lobby. However, I saw a few of members of ( I guess you could call it upper management) standing by what they call the "business center" they were in no hurry to help us or find someone to help us they were to busy laughing and joking around. I even found out later that week that one of the ladies was the general manager because she was rude enough not to hold the elevator for me one afternoon. The rooms were not clean and had a vile stench flowing through the halls, the place doesn't meet any of my standards in being a "hotel" Although after seeing the actions of management a few times during my stay, I feel that it is there fault that the hotel was presented this way, i would not recommend or return to the Hawthorne Inn

We stayed at this hotel for a few days b/c we had a family member at the Wake Forest hospital (the Inn is owned by the hospital). The rooms were clean and a decent size for the price. Our biggest complaints are with the area and the safety of the parking lot. 2 out of 3 nights during our stay, someone tried to break into our car, causing some damage. We'll be staying at another hotel with more security
Great value for a basic hotel

While this hotel is hardly as "fancy" as some of the big chains, it was certainly a good value for the price. It is apparent that this is an older hotel. It does not have some of the amenities of say a Embassy Suite. I can see how a business traveler who spends a lot of time on the road might be disappointed in the lack of features. However the business traveler isn't concerned with cost either! In our case we simply wanted a good value and didn't need many features. The rooms are clean and the staff was friendly. In fact they gave us a free upgrade to a suite! We had problems with our keys, but the staff were helpful with that too. The bottom line: if you have the money and you want a new, fancy hotel with lots of amenities then maybe this isn't the place for you. On the other hand if you want a good value on a clean place to stay, I would highly recommend this hotel!

I stayed at the Hawthorne Inn for a medical conference and enjoyed my stay. The rate was much better than the Marriott and it included a continental breakfast with belgium waffles! I was able to walk to several restaurants for dinner- Meridan was one of the best restaurants I have been to. It is a bit pricey, but the food was excellent. The hotel also had shuttle service to the hospital which was very convenient for me. Also, at the last minute I needed to extend my stay and the front desk was very accomodating despite being very busy. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious- maybe not luxurious, but for the price, you can't beat it. I would stay here again!
