Fantastic experience

We stayed in the 'house' of the Star Inn, not an apartment. The room, though cozy, was all the space we really needed and our basic needs were more than covered. Not sure why someone had a problem with the bedding in a previous post, but we were impressed with the bedding and linens, as they are very similar to the Marriott bedding and linens that we so appreciate. The location is great, low cost bike rentals are just across the street at Congress Hall, and the towel/beach service is a wonderful perk. We will be back!
HEAVEN!!

We are long-time Cape May vacationers.....have been coming to the Jersey Shore every year since 1994. We have stayed in many places in Cape May County, but Congress Hall and The Star Inn are by far at the top of the "heap". We watched the restoration of Congress Hall in the early-mid 2000's, and what a wonderful thing it turned out to be. Congress Hall is 5 a star property, with all the top amenities and services one would expect. The historic element (accurately preserved) just adds more ambience to the old "Summer White House"......(look it up). The rooms and interior halls are quite large, and provide beautiful views of the ocean or historic Cape May. The sweeping porch with rockers looking out at the ocean is perfect; the pools and pool bar are wonderful. It is so nice to sit in a comfy lounger, sipping a drink while waiting for your lunch to be served! And if you want lunch on the beach, Congress Hall can accomodate you; lunch will be served to you while you lounge on one of CH complimentary beach chairs w/umbrella. Congress Hall's restaurant, The Blue Pig, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the food is great. There is also an elegant bar and lounge, where it is nice to go for a relaxing before or after dinner drink. There is usually a piano player during high season. If you prefer something a little more lively, check out The Boiler Room downstairs.....there are live bands there several nights a week, as well as a DJ when there is not a band. Yes, Congress Hall is quite pricey during high season (June-July-Aug)......AND WHY DO I GO ON ABOUT CONGRESS HALL, WHEN THIS REVIEW IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT THE STAR INN? BECAUSE........
THE STAR INN is actually a part of Congress Hall. It is a wonderful little B&B, located next door to CH. It consists of two buildings, "The Carriage House", in which you will find roomy condo-like suites with kitchens, porches, rear courtyards or balconies, and the Inn, which looks like a typical B&B, complete with front sitting porch with ocean view. The rooms at the INN are much smaller than in the main hotel of CH or The Carriage House Suites, but they are charming completely updated, and wonderfully decorated (modern, not Victorian). Housekeeping service is provided twice daily. Guests of The Star Inn and Carriage House are considered guests of Congress Hall, and as such, are entitled to complete use of the main hotel's services and amenities, including pool, beach service, etc Guests of The Star Inn/Carriage House are provided with vouchers worth $14 toward breakfast each day at The Blue Pig; the vouchers can also be used to purchse breakfast at the coffee shop on the ground floor of the INN. And here is the best part: RATES AT THE STAR INN ARE 1/2 TO 1/3 LESS THAN THOSE FOR THE MAIN HOTEL OF CONGRESS HALL!! We had a wonderful time at the Star Inn, and have booked again for July 2008.

We stayed at the Star in October for 2 nights (without our kids - yeah!). It was so great. We have stayed in various B&B's over the years and other hotels but this little motel was the BEST! It was a perfect room for 2 - enough space to spread out and just enough to get cozy together. Fully equipped little kitchen, fridge, stove top, coffee maker, etc. The decor was so cute - 50's retro and the leopard carpet really pulled it together. We stayed on the 2nd floor and could see the ocean from our little front porch. It was very private and quiet and the location was stellar. The maid service was fantastic and the toiletries and towels and robes were 5 star. We will stay at the Star from now on and skip the B&B's. You can still get the Cape May experience and stay in a modern place. The staff at the coffee shop was great too and very friendly.

In 2005, my wife and I stayed at the Congress Hall Hotel in Cape May for two nights including Christmas Eve and had a great time. The hotel, staff, and restaurant (The Blue Pig) were absolutely wonderful. However, we noticed that they had purchased the little motel across the street. Since we couldn't quite afford one of the larger rooms at the hotel, we checked into the renovated motel that Congress Hall had dubbed the Star Inn the following year and were pleasantly surprised to find modern decor providing a living room area with mini-kitchen, flat screen TV and room to relax in addition to a spacious bedroom with its own TV and desk set up for wireless - and the cost was less than Congress Hall! Same great staff and the same great restaurant a short walk across the street. Be sure to make reservations at the Blue Pig for Christmas Eve because it's one of the only places open that night - and the menu/service is excellent, too.

We just came back from a four day, three night stay at the Star Inn. This has been our tenth year at Cape May but our first staying at this resort. I can only say that we already have made our reservations for next year because we enjoyed the resort so much this year. We are a group of four woman and when we arrived at the property we were greeted by Marianne. Once we were able to get into the carriage suites we were just in awe at the rooms. We loved the fact that we had two bathrooms so it made getting ready at night so much easier. The chair service on the beach really spoiled us - make sure that you definitely take advantage of this. I would have to say that the customer service at this hotel is just top notch and we cannot wait to arrive next year!
