We followed our guidebook and were pleased with this hotel. Good quality and clean with friendly staff. It is typical of the 4 to 5 star these days with twin or double beds, free breakfast, (western and Chinese) and free internet and cable tv. The location is good, about 1 km from the train station and the area looks quite safe with many shops and restaurants. The city is very busy but the rooms are nice and quiet. There is a free shuttle bus. The staff were very helpful with tourist advice and friendly with some English spoken. If you are in Chiayi then stay here.

An OK hotel in a not so scenic part of Taiwan

Chiayi was my destination for business purposes. I wouldn't recommend this as a tourist destination. The hotel was "OK"...the room was decent size, it seemed fairly clean, but the A/C was not very good. The power (and A/C) are only on with your keycard, so if you leave your room, leave something in the slot or your room will keep getting warmer and warmer and warmer. My room started at 26 C and made it down to 24 C after 15 hours of the A/C running constantly, so don't count on being cool if it's summer in Taiwan. The bed was really firm (almost plywood like) and the pillows were hard, but I think this is typical of Asian hotels that don't cater as much to Westerners. The Chinese restaurant on the 3rd floor was so so, don't count on English speaking staff, just point at what you want as the servers come by with dishes of food (it's almost dim sum style). The breakfast was geared towards chinese fare, but there was a few items that were vaguely appealing to the western pallette (coffee, toast, waffles (which were labeled as muffins), and runny scrambled eggs. If you have to stay in Chiayi, then this is not a bad choice, although don't spend too much and don't expect luxury.

You can get a better bargin than this hotel. It's way too pricy and the room is smelly. Anyone who pays more than NT$3000 should consider way too much.
