I stayed in a single bed room and friends had a 3 singles room. My room was TINY - just enough room to walk around the single bed. No room to open bag on floor. Comfy bed! The kettle cord was stretched alot to get it to reach the plug. Parts of the furniture fell off, the shower flooded the bathroom, their was no fan in the bathroom so the mirror was totally misted up. I was woken repeatedly by my neighbours on the last night. My air con/heater would not work and I was brought a crappy portable heater with a squealing fan. My door swipe did not work a few times. I would hate to be in a fire at this place as it was very confusing the way the rooms were set out. My friends room was much bigger but their bathroom was so small - the crack in the door so large you could see each other on the toilet! Overall this was VERY VERY VERY expensive compared to other hotels in a similar area. I ended up staying up the road in the Oaks on Collins for $30 less (booked on their website) and the room was huge, modern, huge bed and ktichen. I would not stay at the Pensione again. On the positive side the staff were lovely and helpful.

The Pensione hotel is a very nice hotel and great value for money. The room might be a little bit small but very good price and good location. Weekend is around AUD 100 but during the weekdays, you can get as low as AUD 80. To get a good price, go directly to their website. In front of the hotel, there is a tram stop and within a few minutes walking distance, you have the train station, the Southern Cross Station. I think you can also book a serviced appartment with a very good price if you are traveling as a group or family. The hotel is closed to the Crown Plaza, a casino, where you can stroll at night there by the river side. The minor issues were that the pillows were not that comfy because they were too high for me. Hurt my neck. And the other one is the shower and the sink.There is no shower curtain so it's kinda annoying when you shower. Water everywhere. The sink was small, so when you brush your teeth, the water and everything will splatter everywhere. Overall, it is a good hotel.

I was told that this hotel was recently renovated and re-opened when i stayed there. Firstly the location was excellent.. it is just a 4 minutes walk away from southern Cross Train Station (Spencer St Station), and from there you can take a shuttle bus to either Tullamarine Intl Airport or to Avalon Airport. The hotel room was pretty small but the space was very well used. The linen and bedspreads were very clean. the bathroom was TINY.. had a wierd design (due to space constraints) and of course there is NO bath tub, but that was fine..the bathroom door was designed in a strange way, it cannot be fully closed!! my room was facing the main road but it was pretty quiet and i didn't have much noise problems at all. Would definitely recommend it to my friends who want to stay comfortably but who are also cautious about their budgets!
