stayed in Aug 2007
We stayed in the standard suite and it was impressive. It is big including a small dining table, kitchen, sink, range, cabinets, living area, computer work desk, a king bed in back with adjacent bathroom (the shower has dual action sprayers with adjustable pressure knob).
The bed is hard-very hard and the pillows are squishy.
The pool and fitness center are amazing: clean, ample, and up to date. This is a nice hotel. However, the location is questionable. This gem of a hotel is surrounded by a shafty area. Be careful when leaving and observant when touring.
The conceirge is helpful. They provided us with transportation from the hotel to the Shenzhen airport (cost around $140 RMB).

Location is a drawback

I booked the hotel based on the reviews I read here. Also, the price ($100) for a business suite seems to be like a great deal, compared with other hotels I was looking such as Crown Plaza.
The hotel claims to be the first boutique hotel in China. The smallish lobby and narrow hallway seems to convery that feel. The decoration is modern. Those black and white pictures and coffee colored furnitures look like directly from IKEA. The room is spacious enough, and the service is very promt and engaging.
The drawback is the lcoation. I am a leasure traveller. The hotel is on the east end of the city while most of the attractions are on the west edge of the town. Those 20 miles trip can get tiring pretty quickly. The hotel is located in a residential area, quite far from commercial and entertainment areas. You cannot walk to city shops and restaurants from the hotel.
On my way to the airport, the taxi driver told me some horrible stories about how unsafe the city is. He has witnessed many robberies in the bright daylight. Once, he saw a motorcyclist grabbing the purse of a girl, he even tried to run the motercycle over with his taxi, but to no vail. He also said gansters hide brick in the bag, as their motorcycles come close to a target, they hit them with the bag and grab the valuables. Many victims are still in coma. This is nothing against the hotel, but I will no visit Shenzhen anytime soon.

We stayed at the 999 in June 04 and it was delightful. The room was clean and modern, with a curtained off bedroom, a living area, and kitchen. Small balcony. The bath room was very plush and modern. Large suite for the money--we paid $74 US a night.
Staff was very friendly and several spoke passable English--but they always went out of their way to help. They had a very nice breakfast and lunch buffet (fairly inexpensive) and the hotel restaurant stays open very late at night which we enjoyed. Lovely pool area that no one seemed to use--luxurious--outdoor on a roof area.
It took about 15 min for cab ride to commercial city at about $4 US. they even arranged van transport back to Hong Kong for us that was much easier than either taking the bus or train.
