An Italian Experience

Spectacular, comfortable and very clean, this hotel caters very well for Italians with their own transport as very little English is spoken and Taxi use is essential to Bergamo and its surroundings. It sits beside a main road which surprisingly does not intrude on the peace and quiet within, but walking anywhere is not possible. Many breakfast dishes were empty by 0930 although breakfast finished at 1000 and there was insufficient help from the only member of staff on duty. A Taxi service called Star Driver communicated very well and gave us a lot of assistance, advice and help.

Booked through a website on the basis it had a spa and looked like it had a good restaurant. Spa, bar, restanurant in fact everything was closed as it was a Sunday and they seemed to think it strange that we may be hungry in the evening or perhaps like a drink on arrival. Having tried to order some drinks we were told we MUST stay inside a dark room with no view and no window and could not make use of the very pleasant gardens by a particulalry agressive and rude man who was the manager. We were told the restaurant was run separately to the hotel and the so called manager was tired. SO WERE WE!
not a good experience. Its purely a businesshotel and they do not seem to want to cater for any other guests.

This hotel is a undiscovered Gem.
It is located in an unpopulated village (Muratello) a couple miles south of Bergamo Airport. The hotel owners have developed the nearby streets and converted courtyards and buildings into different parts of the hotel. The entrance and driveway have the feel of a grand Italian villa, with large landscaped gardens. The Restaurant is the centrepiece, however, nothing has been spared on the hotel decor, which is lovely.
We were booked into a family room but were given a large suite when we arrived. The chap on reception noted that it was a new suite and hadn't got Air Con fitted yet. As it was very warm he insisted that we swap to a bigger one that had, even though it was very late when we arrived.
Between suites and rooms are a number of nicely decorated lounges with quality furniture and large windows which look out onto courtyards with no shortage of places to put your feet up.
The breakfast was an open buffet with just about everything you could want, set in a lovely breakfast room overlooking one of the courtyards. We ate very well.
Checkout was flexible. We didn't leave until well after 12 noon, but they said we could stay 'til 2.30 if we wanted. The staff were excedingly helpful, giving us maps for our route and letting us use the Internet to plan our trip. We left for Lake Garda and were on the motorway in 15 minutes, arriving there after only 1hour 30mins.
If you like beamed ceilings, Antico tiles, large rooms and 5 star comfort this is your place, (the second suite even had 2 plasma TVs). If you have a car and you arrive on a late flight, even better. And all for £85 per night, breakfast included, for a family of four!
We will return.
