Booked the hotel for a one night stay with our daughter, booked through Octopus.com and got a fabulous deal for b&b. Arrived at the hotel and was given room 54 which was one that there had been some negative reviews about. The room was spacious and a z bed had been put in the room for our daughter. The room was clean and well decorated. Used the pool which was clean and quiet, children are limited to specific times but it was fine for us. The spa looked lovely! All the staff were really friendly. After an unsuccessful trip to Chester to get dinner we returned to the hotel and decided to eat in Nelson's bar, we ordered and the food arrived quickly, we ordered sausage and mash for our daughter, the portion was huge. The food was good quality and comparitively well priced. We settled down for the night slightly apprehensive about the reports of 'herds of elephants' but I am delighted to say that we had an undisturbed night. The breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of choice. All in all we had an excellent stay and I would definately return.

Although the initial welcome from the receptionist was a little frosty, the other reception staff encountered during our stay were friendly and helpful. We dropped our bags off early and they were taken to our room for our arrival later. We stayed in the new part of the hotel, overlooking the courtyard. The room was modern and had everything we needed. The only comment I would make is that the walls are paper thin and we could hear the corridor door everytime it was opened and anyone passing sounded like they were in our room. Thankfully there weren't too many early hours returners. There are a wide variety of foods available for breakfast, including freshly baked croissants which were delicious, and a great selection of jams. The full english wasn't fantastic (anaemic bacon and deep fried hash browns) but the choice makes up for that - they even offer smoked salmon with scrambled egg and smoked haddock/kippers! The bar was a really nice place to relax and the food in there good too. We used the pool and spa too which were both great and added to a nice weekend break.

Stayed for bank holiday weekend as wanted a hotel with pool. In a nice area about 10 mins drive (about ?8 taxi, or ?2 on regular bus) from Chester. Reception efficient for check-in/out. The rooms were spacious but perhaps in need of a litlle re-decorating/updating. Booked executive room but don't bother as not sure if this was any different from standard - bathroom had no walk in shower, but otherwise clean and functional. Bar reasonable but understaffed and had to wait for ages to order drinks, food not bad though. Pool and changing areas good and helpful staff with a couple of loungers if you can get one. Had a couple of relaxing hours there with the papers! Main downside which still taints my view was the brasserie - menu looked good so went one night. Very overpriced and the sea bass I ordered was not cooked, almost raw. To be fair they took it off the bill but looking round the rest of the food did not look up to much either - the staff, although friendly, also totally disorganised. Breakfast in the same place was distinctively average too.
In summary fairly relaxing stay, good for access to Chester, but if not bothered about a pool then go elsewhere as that is what you are paying for. And don't go to the brasserie!
(top tip - walk or bus to village south on main road for couple of good pubs with good grub)

My partner and I have just returned from a three night weekend stay and enjoyed our time at the hotel very much. The whole of the hotel was well kept and tidy. The bedroom and its bathroom were both a good size, nicely decorated and very comfortable. All of the staff we met were friendly and helpful. The bar was reasonably priced and was a nice relaxing environment. We ate in the restaurant on two evenings and the food on both occasions was lovely. Breakfast is served in the same restaurant and is buffet style, all of the hot food was fresh. We used the swimming pool etc on two occasions, the pool is of a decent size and overall the facilities were very good. The hotel is 5/10mins from the centre of Chester and is easily accessable by bus, with a stop a short walk from the hotel and a taxi back to the hotel after a days shopping cost us less than ?10. In summary I would recommend this hotel with out question and we look forward to having another short break at the Grosvenor Pulford.
