I recently attempted to stay near downtown Albany in order to make the VERY early morning trip into the city easier the next day. I looked online quickly and booked the cheapest place I could find within 5 miles of Albany, foolishly not looking at other customer reviews. This mistake would prove fatal. This property is one of the worst locations I've ever been to. Now don't get me wrong, small rooms and minimal customer service is to be expected with rates under $70/night, BUT, dirty and potentially hazardous living conditions are not. This "hotel" is nothing more than a glorified dungeon, I felt dirty after being in the room for less than 5 minutes. Honestly, our clothes smelled like must and cigarettes after inspecting the room and realizing that there was a brown/yellow film covering everything in the bathroom. The rooms are run down; the beds are so dirty we avoided any physical contact for personal safety. The customer service was decent, except for a large sign behind the front desk that reads NO REFUNDS (hmmm, why would they place this sign in plain sight unless the expected trouble). We clearly should've looked at the room closer before handing over the credit card, as we ended up spending the night at the CLEAN and CHEAP Red Roof Inn located on Wolf Rd. After calling to try and regain some of our cash, the front desk employee just referred to the all-knowing "NO REFUNDS" sign instead of trying to help solve our problem and listen to the complaints about the room. We were expecting shabby, we got a filthy property that in my opinion is unfit for human occupation. The surrounding area isn't scary at all (there's nothing around but a hospital and some small-scale businesses), but going inside the lobby and/or rooms is as appealing as a long-term stay in federal prison. Inmates probably experience better living conditions (i.e. showers and toilets). I hate to complain and rant, but I cannot believe that this location is still in business and knowingly offers such poor customer service and products.
PLEASE do not stay here, if the other references to this location as a "filthy pit" don't deter your business, I hope that my account has at least spared many of you from the agony of entering an unkept, run-down, smelly shanty that will take your money and then tap sign when you raise question about your experience with their facilities. Do not stay here, instead, consider the biohazard dumpster located behind the nearby hospital, at least the ER staff is honest about what's in there.

Although the staff was pleasant and went out of way (Marty and Victor) to accommodate me, the room was ok. I didn't know the room (not sure if all rooms have only stall shower) didn't have a tub/shower combo. My room had a stall shower and with a small child/ren its a plus. There was mold on the ceiling in the shower, the shower wasn't very good and the sink is inside the bathroom.
The wall by one of the beds had a hole in it, hence the sheetrock needed to be repaired. The carpet was ok looking and the bed was average comfort. The a/c worked decent as did the refrig. and microwave. Clean too. One thing which I was not impressed with, was the door did not have a deadbolt/extra lock, so that when you press down on the handle from inside the door it opens. Although this may be a convenience to some, with small children who can open doors, its very unsafe (we had to put the table in front of the door). Apart from that, it didn't make us feel secure w/out that extra lock. The grounds were clean and there was a gazebo and I think also a bbq for your use. Stewart's is across the street.
I don't think I'd stay here again, but always like to try new place and then I can state my opinion. FYI: Motel 6 I def. recommend. (but they don't have refrig. and that's a must for me).

Chose this hotel from the "Discount Guide Book" we picked up at a Service Rest Stop on the way home from Niagara Falls to NYC. (We just wanted a place that had HBO to watch "The Sopranos" last night.) The rate of $42.95 + tax seemed great. But, you get what you pay for. The room had a terrible musty smell. The carpets were frayed. There was no light in the bathroom shower and the water pressure wasn't strong. The TV channel selection and reception was great, up to 80 channels. I called the front desk to ask if they had a tv channel guide sheet as there was none in the room. The young man at the front desk responded, "I haven't a clue". My husband called back and asked him what channel HBO was, again he responded "Haven't got a clue". Only after he asked him to "find someone who DID have a clue" the desk clerk put us on hold to find us the answer. The parking lot was practically empty as we counted about three cars in total so he wasn't busy. The lobby advertised "Complimentary coffee" from 6:30 a.m. on. At 8:30 a.m. the coffee was still not made - one pot was empty, the other had cold water sitting in it. Hotel location was terrible - on a highway, not much around except a hospital next door. Only restaurant in walking distance was a Japanese/Korean one half block away. A "Stewart's" mini-mart was across the street. We'd planned on staying another night to sightsee but we checked out the next morning and drove back to Manhattan. I recommend you stay away from this particular Red Carpet Inn on Northern Blvd.

The only thing that is good about this hotel is the location to the Pepsi Center. The first impression was, "this might not be that bad".....boy was i wrong. Have you ever seen "the money pit" ????? Well this is it. I turned the bathroom sink on and nothing but air and a mist of what i hope was water shot out all over me. The carpet in the hallways and room were awful. I didn't want to take my shoes off. The outlet for the TV didn't work. The "free cable" was fuzzy and hard to watch.......all five channels. The one chair in the room looked like it fell off a truck 10 years ago. The bed was like a peice of plywood. No A/C.Not the best place to stay.....run and don't look back......don't be cheap like me........pay the extra 30-50 dollars and have peace of mind that you won't get TB.
