I booked into a two bedroom Executive apartment and after reading some reviews on here I wasn't expecting anything fancy. We were staying at this hotel for its ideal location rather than its ambience. However the hotel exceeded my expectations. The receptionists were lovely and very helpful. Our room was new, clean and fitted with modern appliances including a large LCD television. The bathroom was small but very clean. Overall I would choose to stay here again - perhaps not for a romantic getaway but certainly for somewhere to sleep whilst visiting the theatre or city. Ideal Location!

I stayed at Gordon Heights for a week in February on Business in a "One Bed Deluxe Apartment. I have previously stayed at the main Gordon Place across the road on several occasions over the last six years.
The Annex is cheaper than the main building and it shows - it is the old Shoan Heights with a lick of paint. My room (110 on the first floor) had no windows and only two glass brick walls that face onto another wall at the end of an ally; so there was virtually no natural light.
You have to check in over the road in an incredibly noisy and drafty reception area that used to be just a corridor, the Reception used to be in the centre of the building in a quiet spot.
After being attended to by someone on work experience who evidently felt it was my privilege to be staying there, I was given a sheet of paper, a keycard with no number and sent on my way.
I eventually found my way to my dungeon to experience all manner of inconveniences.
The work area has a broadband connection but no free power points, these being taken up by an LCD TV, cheap and nasty DVD player and various bits and pieces.
There was no compendium in the room (just my bit of paper) so in order to get room service I had to speak to several people in order to have a menu brought over - the food was OK in the end.
If you were there just to go to the theatre it would be OK but as a working destination - no way.
Little things were very annoying:
Access charges for dialing 1800 numbers (not informed when I checked in) which no good hotel ever charges for.
Impossible to order room service
Sloppy housekeeping
Dead insects on the carpet
Noisy machines
Nasty smell in the room
Treated to the same work experience condecension on checking out, puzzled look on her face that I did not appreciate the effort they had not gone to.
My search for decent accomodation in this part of town continues

First things off to a bad start when , reaching door of apartments, had to press an intercom, and told to check in across and down the road at the bigger property.Check in clerk pleasant though harried as only one person on reception.Had booked a studio apartment, and have stayed in many studio partments in melbourne as I stay over frequently.
I was dismayed to find a stuffy dark hole in which one could not swing a cat.Back across the road to ask receptionist for a room change.I was off to a dibnner meeting, and told to come back later and duty manager would see me.On return , the duty manager was very cold, and told me that I could check out(no offer of another room) if I wanted to. As I had prepaid, I had no choice but to sleep there. I had the worst nights sleep. The room was hot, stuffy, sounds of other rooms plumbing going all night, bathroom basin abd floor tiles badly cracked.Tap Warewas ancient, and a nasty smell emanated from the drain when I went to brush my teeth.Table and chars would be impossible to sit at, as were wedged into a corner. I fled the aprtment first thing in the morning and will never be back

I stayed at Somerset Gordon Hights for 2 nights during October 2007 and paid $190AUD/night for a 1 bedroom apartment. This was our corporate rate, so you should be able to get a better price.
The apartment had been recently refurbished, and everything was good as new. The lounge had a comfy sofa and large LCD television with a small selection of cable channels. The kitchen had basic cooking facilities.
The bathroom was very small, and required a basic level of gymnastic ability to close the door and also get into the shower. I had trouble finding space to unbpack my meagre amount of personal toiletries. If you require a lot of preparation time, you will probably be disappointed by the bathroom.
The bedroom was a reasonable size with a large comfortable kingsize bed.
The location of the apartment was great. It's located at the top of Little Bourke Street, about a block away from China Town. The area really comes alive after dark with a huge selection of restaurants within about 5 minutes walking distance.
My apartment was on the 3rd floor, facing Little Bourke Street. I stayed midweek, it was very quiet. No problem with noise at all.
The apartment was serviced each day.
The building and lifts are secured by keycard. The building has no reception, so for checkin/checkout you walk across the road to Somerset Gordon Place (which also looked like an ok place to stay).
Sorry, no photos this time.
I would definitely stay here again.
