Myself and my boyfriend stayed at this hotel from 08th june for 6 nights. I would ask anyone thinking of going there to please read this first as i wouldnt want what happened to us to happen to anyone else! The hotel itself is below average, the rooms arent great, service at reception can be a joke at times and the breakfast leaves alot to be desired! However all of this we could of lived with during our stay. The BIG problem they have is security or rather lack of it.
We found out the hard way !! On our second night there ,we were having a restless night and thought we heard footsteps on our roof.We discussed it as we knew it was a bungalow,so just dismissed it as noises in the night. Then at about 0420am my boyfriend heard a noise in the room, looked up and there was a man in the room. After much panic and shouting, the man ran out and my boyfriend pursued him outside. He was way ahead and the security guard gave chase but he was too far ahead. We have never been so scared,it was the most frightening thing ever. The hotel people moved us to a room near the reception, and to cut a long night short,we barricaded the door with furniture and rested on our bed with the light on.
The next morning we filled out a police report(luckily he didn't get anything).I asked him if this had happened before,he said no.I also asked if anyone else was robbed, and they said a room had a wallet taken from it after they woke that morning to find the door slightly open, and the wallet missing .If we hadn't asked then they would not have told us.My boyfriend then insisted a bolt be put on the inside of our door. They said they would put on all rooms and fix the perimeter fence too.Although the rooms had bolts on the windows, the door lock were easily pickable, but this could have been stopped by a barrel bolt on the door as you would have to kick the door in to get in.Although they fitted one,we still had to barricade the door and leave the light on.
Now the more worrying thing is the police and hotel were lying. We did a bit of investigation with taxi drivers and waitresses in nearby restaurants and found out that the Seychelles has a big heroin problem. They told us it was a regular thing along the cote d,or,particularly at the Berjaya .Everyone knows when heroin is involved,if they need money, they will do anything to get it.My boyfriend did see the guy who broke in,and so did the security guard. He was a Rasta with his dreadlocks in a big beanie hat.We had suspicions ,along with the security guard,it may be something to do with the Rasta's who hang around at the entrance by the beach, who ask to change money and if you want a taxi boat.Unbelievably you may think, but a waitress in a nearby restaurant said it was common knowledge security was bad at our hotel and she said she thinks it was probably a guy known as KK who did it.Well you may think this a bit vague, but having taken this matter further with CID in the Police headquarters, when we moved on to Mahe. They said a guy known as KK had jumped bail for another robbery and was the main suspect for our break in.We felt so concerned about this seemingly unknown problem in paradise, that is why we went to the police again.More worrying again is the fact I cant find anything on the internet to see if anyone else has had similar problems, even though the locals all confirmed this.
On a final note, just before we left the hotel I approached the hotel staff and again they had lied. They had only fitted a bolt on our room 102,and had not bothered fixing then in the other rooms, and had not fixed the fence. They said it was because they were renovating all the rooms. In yet another stand off with them,We made it clear that this would take a long time and until then, people are at risk.If you have already booked to go,insisted on a renovated room,or make them put a bolt inside the door.
On a more positive note, the restaurant at Village Du Pecheur, although a little expensive is the best we have been to in years, unbelievable setting, immaculate service, and the food amazing.
