The hotel has not been maintained since its conversion a couple of decades ago. We were surprised to find it opposite a number of clip joints and "buddy" bars which were noisy late into the night. Breakfast was very poor. There are much better hotels in Singapore.

Booked this hotel on line as special treat for my wedding anniversary in the midst of a vacation in SE Asia, predominately in budget accomodation. We were not impressed!
Initially were given a room with broken AC. When we asked to move, we were placed in a smaller room that was newly refurbished, but as it turned out not finished (no chain lock on the door, no in-room safe). There was too little staff at night (front desk clerk had to play hotel engineer, bell boy and house keeper) and in the morning the information we recevied was incorrect (housekeeping delievered a room service menu without breakfast choices when we rang asking for this and in response to a request regarding where to get transport to our next itinerary stop we were given information that placed us more than a mile away from where we actually needed to be).
The one surprising positive to this hotel are the restaurants right around it. Much is made of the night clubs that are litterally outside the door. Head a few paces out of this area however and you have several award winning eateries on quiet leafy streets with beautifully maintained colonial architecture.

We stayed at the Beyjaya Hotel for 4 nights in the weeks before christmas. We had a queen room overlooking the main road. That said we were not disturbed by any noise from the street despite the prolific bars and clubs in the area.
The MTR is just around the corner and there is a great hawker center where you can get cheap and local food.
The hotel itself is true to its colonial charqacter and we found it charming. The included breakfast was a bit stodgy at times but it was passable.
Overall we had a lovely stay.

great location (if you don't mind the bars nearby), very friendly staff, charming colonial decor. i stayed here as a very pregnant, very grumpy person -- and even i couldn't find anything to complain about. if you know pregnant ladies, that's saying something!

I was booked here by a company I was visiting because I said I would like to stay in Chinatown for a change. What a mistake.
The hotel was so crummy that I had to try three rooms before one was found in which enough things worked to make it habitable. The place is dingy, rundown, dirty, and threadbare. If it has any staff other than one harried guy behind the desk, I never saw any evidence of them. Maintenance is apparently an enitrely unknown concept.
Now, to be fair, this hotel would be a perfectly acceptable $20 a night flophouse since, all in all, it has the overall flavor of the kind of hotel that charges by the hour. But note this: their rates are higher than the Regent. They even charge more for slow, almost useless internet service than the Regent charges for adequate broadband access.
Don't even think about staying here unless there isn't another room available in all of Singapore. Frankly, I wouldn't suggest you consider it then. Better to head for the airport instead.
