This was our 3rd stay at Ambasciatori. They have remodeled (are still in the process, though you might not know if signs weren't posted) but we really saw little difference in the rooms.
It's too bad that one or two staff members behind the desks (no name tags, or would have left manager a note) can ruin a hotel experience. One was consistently snippy and rude. I mean, really, really snippy-- and we were causing him no problems. honest!! luckily, another staff member (underling) went out of his way to be helpful. my italian isn't good enough to be sure of this-- but it seems like the snippy one was giving the nice one a really hard time about his helpfulness!??
The common areas are oddly arranged (remodel will fix?) and awkward on entering. Many will find this very disturbing with such an expensive hotel. however, i think this will be changed when the remodel is complete.
all of that said-- bathroom is very clean and good sized. beds are very comfy and sheets are very high quality. air conditioning works really well. lights and window shutters are all controlled from next to the bed. the maid service changed the sheets daily, which is such a treat. breakfast is fantastic (though nothing hot on the buffet) with really good coffee, lots of good protein choices (including parma ham) and a good variety of the usual fare.
Location is absolutely perfect... just a minute walk from the duomo and metro... shopping right there.... it doesn't get better.
we got a really good rate on kemwel. i'd love to return to the ambasciatori again-- but it will be difficult to put the awful treatment we got at the desk out of our minds. we were there 3 nights, and never seemed to be able to break through.

My friend and I have just returned from a New Year`s break in Milan and stayed at the Ambasciatori Hotel. We read the varied reviews prior to going and so had some idea of what to expect. We were more than impressed once we arrived! We found this hotel to be excellent for a short break in Milan. The location was excellent, very close to the Duomo and main shopping gallerias, yet very quiet. The rooms were huge, almost like a suite (including a walk-in wardrobe), with a large bathroom and all rooms were exceptionally clean. Towels and linen were changed at least once a day and the staff were very friendly and professional. Breakfast was a good selection of pastries, fruit, ham, cheese and cake, and the service was excellent. The hotel reception is one floor up from the main entrance to the hotel, but once you realised this, it was easy enough to get to.

Well well well.
I booked this hotel at the last minute after cancelling the Hilton in Milan. I was taking my father (76) and wanted a hotel in the heart of the duomo. I've read reports previously and expected 200 metres to really be 2 miles away.
After an initial issue of finding this hotel I was more than satisfied with what I found. The police were unable to tell me where it was despite it being right next door to the police station. It really is in the middle of a shopping centre and very safe.
The rooms are far better than the quality I have had on my many travels to European cities and if I'm being honest the service was better than in some 5 Star hoels I have been to.
They are currently renovating the restaurant and breakfast bar so the breakfast room is apparently slightly smaller at the moment. No hot breakfast unless pre-ordered but the continental selection is fantastic. The waiting staff were so friendly and for coffee lovers you will have a great time with endless pots served to you.
The reception staff were very helpful and the girl the night we arrived advised us of a little restaurant called La Bruschetta just behind the hotel. Excellent food, book if you are going around 8pm.
I honestly can't fault this hotel. Only issue I would say for fussy travellers is there is no view from the rooms generally. You look out the back courtyard. My air conditioning wasn't coming on either but in December I was quite happy with that. No doubt it would have worked if I asked.
Overall a clean hotel with ample facilities. I will definately return here and urge anyone to book here rather than 3 other overpriced hotels I have stayed in outside Milan city centre.
La Bruschetta is a must......Spaghetti Pomodoro starter, Calzone and poached pear with ice cream. YUM YUM!
