We stayed in the Downtown hotel for two nights and were very happy with it, its location is about a ten minute walk from vitosha boulevard , room was clean and bed was comfortable , the buffet breakfast was very satisfactory and the hotel staff were very helpfull and friendly , they have an extensive whiskey list in the rooms if thats your thing, also mini bar in the rooms,
i would also recommend Hotel Niky on a budget,or the Hilton for comfort and amazing buffet breakfast.

I have recently returned from our stay at the Downtown Hotel in Sofia and would thoroughly recommend it. The rooms were clean and spacious and well equiped with everything you need - mini bar, tv, hairdryer, bath and shower, bathrobes etc.
The staff were fantastic and did all they could to make our stay as easy as possible despite lastminute.com messing up our booking.
The breakfast was fresh and hot with plenty of variety. We ate at the restaurant once and the food was also good.
Whilst not completely central you can get to all the main sites in ten minutes (walking).

This is a great hotel. I am staying in it now.
The hotel is bright and well appointed. It is celebrating its 4th anniversary today.
The staff is very friendly and quite professional, and after 18 days in Rumania, I find the Sofia people more sophisticated and facilities generally better, as this hotel attests.
I believe you will not be disappointed unless you want a hotel in the middle of the action. This one is located about 5 blocks from the main tourist street. That for us was not a problem.
The business center lets one use the Internet for free. CNN, BBC, Euronews, and MSNBC are offered.
All in all, I wish all hotels could be this nice.

This hotel has the usual attentive staff you get in Bulgaria. The receptionists are helpful but don't expect an american style concierge that always has an answer. "I don't know" is frequently all you get (when asking for a doctor for example).
I have a quiet room towards the back of the hotel (number 310) that looks out into the courtyard of the hotel and a university building. No street noise is nice. The rooms come with bath robe and slippers and good quality towels.
There is a exercise room in the hotel that is clean and very well kept. The sauna is big, but lacks proper sauna-showers (hoses, buckets, etc), an outside walking area and a relax-room.
The breakfast is very nice. Included is eggs, bacon, bread, Yoghurt, cake, sausages and fruits. The coffee is good. The service is very nice.
The hotel restaurant is good quality but who wants to go there when there are so many 'pectopaht' options available in a short walking distance. The downtown starts 2,3 blocks away from the hotel.
