Nice hotel, nice staff in general. We had a dinner on one evening. I was dissapointed with the meal in the restaurant as we were charged for extras and were not made aware of these charges. Nothing was priced!! The waiter asked, did we want water, i said yes but i thought it would probably be jug of water but it wasn't, it was bottled and we were charged for that. They gave us a small enough portion of patatoes and veg therefore when asked did we want chips, we agreeded but we were not made aware it would cost extra.. i was very diasspointed with their system of billing, it was sly. It was very expensive for what it was!!

We recently had a weekend in The Clifden Station House and we really enjoyed our visit. Firstly, the weather was great so that was a bonus. The room was very comfortable wioth a nice view. We ate in the restaurant one night out of our 2 nights there and the food was excellent, breakfast both mornings was also very good, with a good choice. The leisure centre, the staff explained has just been renovated as was the spa and both complemented the hotel greatly. The rate was great value for money and we look forward to going back again and bringing the kids. Would have no hesitation recommending this hotel to family & friends.

Was in Clifden for the Brian Kennedy Concert which was excellent by the way. Stayed in The Station Hotel and we found the food, staff & bedrooms excellent. You have to be a lover of sea food to enjoy this restaurant excellent scallops & monkfish & my husband had John Dory. Hotel was very busy and a great buzz about the place probably because of Brian Kennedy.
We will definatley be back again for the next concert in Clifden and will definatley be staying in the Station House again had a wonderful time there.
Around the hotel there is some lovely shops one that springs to mind is Millers, very friendly staff. There is a lovely river walk which we did on the Sunday morning, the girl in reception was very friendly and helpful with things to do in the area.

OK, I never actually made it to the hotel but everything about booking and trying to change my booking in their hotel turned me right off them such that I would not go there nor recommend anyone else to!
In January of this year I made a booking with the hotel’s self catering apartments for 3 nights and was quoted 350 Euro plus 50 Euro deposit. At the time I enquired about booking for two nights and was quoted 300 Euro and 50 Euro deposit but I opted for the three nights just in case we would need the extra night and could not get it after the fact.
I later needed to change the dates of our stay to two nights but when I called back on Tuesday 12th February I was told the prices had gone up in the interim and I now had to pay the revised rates for two night, 375 Euro and 50 Euro deposit! As I was amending an original booking, not making a new booking, I asked did the previous prices on the date of booking not apply. I was told no. When I asked to speak to the Reservations Manager she also had no interest in accommodating us and also said that the new rates apply, end of story!
Regardless of whatever pathetic excuse the hotel tried to give about how they can only charge the prices in the system on the day etc, I think this is the most obvious and miserable attempt to make as much money as you can from tourists looking to visit the area at the time with the limited accommodation available. I also work with systems and know full well it is possible to do a price override to apply the previous prices at the original time of the booking if necessary, but that quite literally the hotel were not willing to do this.
Disgusted with the miserable attempt to glean a pathetic 75 Euro from tourists wishing to visit ad enjoy some holidays in the locality, I made alternative arrangements to stay in the Clifden area for that weekend.
However to make matters worse when I called to cancel, the staff tried to get away with saying the deposit was non-refundable, despite me asking several times at the time of booking was the deposit refundable and being told once cancelled before two weeks of the date of arrival it was!! Moreover the confirmation letter received from the hotel also indicated that once cancelled more than 2 weeks prior to the date of arrival no charge would be applied. Despite this (either the staff are incompetent or their policy is to chance their arm wherever possible) I was told the deposit was non-refundable!
I have since managed to 'clear' up the situation with their staff and I have been assured the deposit will be refunded however I can honestly say I have rarely come across such tight-fistedness and meanness on the behalf of a business establishment in a long time. Steer clear for a stress free holiday!
Not great

Checked in January 08 for a weekend break. Room was quite nice although it was very very warm on the first night. The second night the heat never came on at all. We called down to reception to be reassured that she would switch it on for us which she never did and the room was very cold all night. If you wish to use the internet or watch a movie or listen to an album, you can do using the keyboard for the t.v, it is however very very expensive.
Breakfast was quite nice, the waiting staff are very polite and helpful, probably the hotels greatest asset. The pool was most disappointing, in dire need of a revamp especially the changing room which was horrible. Plus myself and my boyfriend were only given one locker key between the two of us to store our things. Seeing as the lockers are located in the changing rooms how exactly was that one going to work out??????
Dinner was also very disappointing as it was served in the bar not the restauraunt , very cold noisy (kids from the ice rinc were running through the bar unsurervised all night) plus we had to order from the bar menu which was very disappointing seeing as we had booked the 2BB1D package. If we had known the restauraunt was closed we would have taken our meal the night before. Also our server went home half way through our dinner and we were left to contact the bar for the rest of our meal.
We complained to the manager via email, it took nearly a week for them to reply in which they apologised for not telling us were we would be having our meal. That was it! Was left feeling very unsatisfied.
