The Brentwood has a special deal for late arrivals, and we booked this as our plane arrived in Wellington at midnight. All we wanted was a place to sleep before picking up our hire car the next day. It was perfectly adequate for this. The complimentary shuttle service was efficient, the reception staff friendly and helpful. It's very convenient for the airport but you wouldn't stay here as a base to explore Wellington. It was clean and the shower was good. Looking a bit tired but you get what you pay for and this was a very good deal.

We stayed there because my sister-in-law who lives north of the city overnights there before early departures and said they are nice people and handy to the airport with a free shuttle. All true.
I booked through Wotif, and then wrote and confirmed directly with the hotel, since we specifically wanted a non-smoking room and a king-size bed.
I also wanted to make sure we HAD a room, after reading the plight of a previous reviewer!
They were happy to give us what we asked for but warned us there was a flight of stairs to the floor with the king-size beds.
In spite of my recent knee replacement, we decided to risk it, and it was indeed a long, but very wide, carpeted flight of stairs with a very pleasant fellow to tote the bags up for us in the middle of the night. The shuttle was also at the airport to meet us and took us back the next morning after a delicious brekky in nice surrounds.
The room itself was comfortable enough but a bit shabby (spots on the carpet, chipped paint), but it served its purpose and all the staff were very nice. There was a crowd gathering for a conference, judging by the armloads of notebooks, and I expect it's a popular venue for that.
We will probably stay again rather than wake family up after midnight when we fly back to visit.

Don't book a reservation at the Brentwood in Wellington if you actually want to have a room when you arrive. I booked a room directly through the property's own website a month prior to my arrival and guaranteed it with a credit card. I even told them that I would be arriving late. When I arrived after midnight, I was told that they were overbooked and they were sending me to a nearby motel. When I protested being sent to a motel, they said that I was free to go elsewhere. What choice did I have? It was the middle of the night in a foreign country. The asst manager said that they had already sent 13 other people to this motel that night because of being overbooked! Apparently they haven't learned the meaning of a guaranteed reservation. I won't mention the name of the motel, because it's not their fault, but it was a modest accomodation. My wife and I got very little sleep because we were so angry and I kept thinking, "I'm paying $20 an hour to not sleep in this crummy motel." It ruined our first day in New Zealand because we were so tired the next day. What an unprofessional establishment.

Would not reccommend Brentwood Hotel

Stayed here in early April. Not impressed and wouldn't reccommend it - what you see on their website is not what you get. Foyer etc okay, but rooms and exterior not good at all. Awful bed, tiny bathroom, no air conditioning (or heating), dodgy neighbourhood. To top it off, they put someone else in my room when I was out - came back to see someone's luggage in there!

Certainly well below 3 stars - a disappointment

Was there for the Lions Tour. We were allocated this hotel and thank goodness we were able to move. It was dreadful - and the fact that it was busy with rugby fans is no excuse, other hotels were fine.
The location is not good - $14 taxi ride each way just to get into town. They advertise that the place has been refurbished - the reception and public areas have but the the rooms..... well, talk about out of the ark! Long dingy corridors, small grubby, tired rooms with a hanging rail and curtain as a wardrobe. The shower would make you feel dirtier!! And to add insult to injury it seems to double as a youth hostel.
