The Convenience of Cartier Place Hotel

Our family just got back from 4 enjoyable days in Ottawa and the enjoyment was in large part due to staying in an apartment hotel. We had booked a 2 bedroom apartment but were upgraded to 2 one bedroom apartments with an interconnecting door. The beauty of this is that we had 2 livingrooms, 2 kitchens and 2 washrooms. With two young children, we appreciated the ability to spread out.
We asked for a quiet unit and am happy to report that we didn't hear any noise at all during our stay.
The service was courteous and prompt.
On the downside, the decor in the apartment (including the washrooms) is a little dated. However, the convenient location and the comfort of having an entire apartment rather than just a hotel room more than offset this.
There was a minor glitch in that both dishwashers didn't work - but this was quickly rectified. When I mentioned this at checkout, they waived 1 night's parking ( a savings of $17.00). We also saved by having some meals in and by using the hotel's "stay 2 nights get one night free" coupon that they advertise in a travel brochure.

The hotel is in a pretty convenient location and it is a very good value since the rooms are suites. The hotel is getting a bit old though and the decor is showing its age.
Good:
- Great value
- Great location. Walking distance to tourist attractions
- Love the self-laundry facilities
- Large rooms
Bad:
- Decor very old
- Bathrooms old and basic
- Parking garage is tricky. If your garage keycard stops working, there is no way for you to walk out of the garage!
- No free Internet

I stayed at the Cartier Place Suite Hotel in December of 2007. It was my first time to Ottawa, so I wanted a hotel with a central location. However, I was on a budget so I needed an affordable place as well. Luckily, I found Cartier Place through Expedia, and I was offered an excellent rate of around $100 for a room with a Queen size bed. The hotel is located right off of Elgin Street, which is the main street in Ottawa. It is literally minutes away from the Parliament buildings, the Rideau Canal, and great shopping and nightlife. The room was larger than a normal hotel room, as it contained a separate living room and kitchen. This was nice, because it allowed me a place to make my own meals if I wanted to. The room was clean and tastefully decorated. Also, everything was in working order, including a hot, high-pressure shower, comfortable mattress, and two television sets with movies available to order. Another amenity I enjoyed was the pool and spa. It was great to come back and relax in the spa after a long day of sightseeing, Not only that, but the hotel has a workout room, and play area for kids. I found the staff very friendly as well. All in all, it was a great experience, and an excellent value. I can highly recommend Cartier Place to anyone passing through Ottawa.

My brother recommended Cartier Place for us. We have 3 kids and booked a 2 bedroom suite. The room was clean, bright and had everything we needed. The pool and other facilities were also excellent and well maintained. I have stayed in the dumpiest dumps to Raffles Hotel in Singapore and can safely say this was perfect for a family of 5, very kid friendly. My kids are 13, 11, and 9 and there was something for each. I didn't hear "I'm bored" once!
What also made a big difference was the staff. The folks that work there were pleasant and professional. Well trained and even when there was a tiny blip with our reservation, it was fixed in about 3 minutes with a phone call.
The location to Parliament Hill and Winterlude couldn't be better, we parked the truck in their oversize lot and left it there. Restaurants in the area also were excellent from Harvey's to great steak houses, seafood and so on.
All in all, I have nothing but good things to say from the time we checked in, early I may add as the room was ready, to housekeeping which was also right on and not a complaint when I asked for extra blankets for the kids.
I highly recommend Cartier Place Suite Hotel and we hope to take the kids back in the summer!
Thank you all for a wonderful weekend,

Excellent family oriented hotel. good size pool, playroom for the kids and friendly eager to please staff. Beds and bedding were not that great, but the suite was lovely. down side - Parking was $17 extra per night!!! I would definitely stay again.
