After having my mother-in-law addmitted to the hospital I found myself in need of a room for a few days. I choose to stay on site at the guest hotel. After being in the hospital all day I checked in late and when I got to my room I couldn't believe how dirty the room was. The tub was so dirty I had to put a towel down so that I could take a shower. Food and dirt all over the floor, I pulled down the sheets to find hair and dirt in my bed. If I hadn't been totaly wiped I would have left that night and found something else. The bad part was the girl at the desk could care less. She didn't care that I had a dirty room, or that even that I didn't rest well because of the hassle of paying $137.00 for a dirty room. If I would have know this I would have stayed in the comfort Inn downtown. Which I did for the next 5 days. Of course the room was well cleaned and I received a discount and was only charged $60.00 a night because I was with the Clinic. You would think that the Guest House would take better care of the people in this bad situation but I think once again it is all about money. If you want a clean room don't stay at the guest Hotel stay at the comfort Inn downtown.

Nice and Clean, Friendly Staff, Within walking distance for almost all of the Clinic. Very secure area, for the ladies. We walked the area late at night and there was security everywhere!
The schuttle is also available if needed, they also have a friendly staff. Nice to know we were being watched and cared for! Highly recommend the GuestHouse!

We stayed at the Guest House for a three day period while seeing some specialists. Check in was pretty efficient. The hotel room was pretty clean and looked updated. There was a problem with the window closing properly and it didn't have a crank to it. After my husband and I pulled on it a few times it finally closed. Wouldn't be safe if you had young kids since it was pretty easy to push open. The elevators were both down during our stay which is extremely inconvenient. We had to use the service elevator which frequently had large bins of towels/sheets etc. Otherwise it was the stairs. Most people that stay at this location do so because it is right across the street from several specialtys of the Cleveland Clinic and are suffering from illness and shouldn't have to be required to take any stairs. I didn't see anybody called out immediately to fix the elevators while we were there. The Chicago Deli is the one restaurant directly accessibly from the hotel lobby and is wonderful. It is open at convenient times and has reasonably priced good food.
The staff overall were personable and polite. It's not a five star hotel but definitely one that is clean, close to the Cleveland Clinic and seems well run. The shuttle is a great ammenity. It runs every 15-20 minutes to all locations to the C.C. and the drivers are very friendly and polite. Right now Euclid Avenue is completely torn up so the ride was bumpy. It seemed quicker to walk to where we needed to go. But for those not ambulatory this is a great service.

We just completed a three-week stay at the Cleveland Clinic Guest House while my father had surgery at the Clinic. Overall the best thing about this hotel is its extreme convenience to the Clinic. It is literally right across the street from the main entrance, even if the trip over is now a little circuitous because of the huge amount of construction going on at the Clinic and on nearby Euclid Avenue. The entrance is very easily reached by either shuttle or a short walk.
People who book at this hotel should know they are not booking at a luxury hotel or even at a place that offers a lot of amenities many chain hotels offer. You are getting a fairly decent room rate for downtown Cleveland and mainly paying for the convenience and proximity to the Clinic.
The good and bad of our recent stay:
-- An extremely rude reception upon checkin from a very young male night manager who threatened not to let me check in because I "raised my voice at him" . I did so because he was not acknowledging reservation plans my father had already made for us. It turned out this manager had a copy of my father's billing and reservation information right in front of him but didn't even bother to look for it. This was a stressful event because my father's surgery was at this point less than 12 hours away and we had driven two days to get there. This young man was just one example of several rather indifferent and rude young staff at the front desk. Don't expect red carpet treatment when you arrive, although after talking to the manager about this I noticed the staff's conduct improved.
-- The Guest House has no wireless internet access in the rooms. There is dial-up from the rooms. To get wifi, you need to take your computer to the often crowded lounge area near the lobby. There are also two computers available for use by guests. The wifi is iffy and goes on and off. Most of the time it was fixed quickly when we alerted management.
-- The Guest House does not offer the usual cable TV selection in its rooms. There are selected cable channels such as Discovery, A&E, etc, but no Animal Planet, Bravo, History Channel, and several others. There are four Arabic channels and the EWTN Catholic channel, and no PBS. We noted this to management as well because during stressful times such as having a familiy member in the hospital, favorite TV programs can be a comfort.
-- Maid service is only offered every other day if you are there on a weekly rate.
-- Rooms offer coffee makers and refrigerators. There are kitchenettes available but you have to ask for them. The "Tapas" bar in the lobby offers a limited selection of sandwiches and pizza, soft drinks, beer and liquor drinks. but for some stupid reason is not open on weekends, which is unfortunate. There are two good restaurants on the property which are independent of the hotel: Chicago Deli and Cedarlands, an excellent Middle Eastern restaurant.
--There is no complimentary continental breakfast, workout room, etc. that you might find at other chain hotels.
-- Currently there are no full time bellhops on staff to help with luggage. We were able to fend for ourselves but thought it was terrible to watch guests checking in and out who were having to struggle with their own luggage carts when many were on walkers, elderly, etc. At a hotel that caters to so many people with illnesses and disabilities, full time bell service should really be available.
--Laundry and vending facilities were extremely convenient, clean and well-maintained.
--Many staff people at the Guest House are very young and obviously new to the hospitality industry. As mentioned above, some of them have poor attitude and others frequently gave out wrong information to guests i.e. about shuttle schedules, room rates, etc. If in doubt, ask for the manager. We dealt with a Mr. Sams who is a wonderful and professional man who promised improvements and made sure our problems were resolved.
--The room keys at Guest House almost constantly have to be reprogrammed day after day if you are visiting the Clinic. This has something to do with the machinery over at the hospital. Nearly every guest dealt with this during our stay. Really a pain to deal with that hospital/hotel staff should work on resolving.
Overall, the Cleveland Clinic Guest House ended up providing us a basically pleasant stay. Complaints were addressed quickly and professionally, the rooms themselves were clean and comfortable, and as noted convenience to my father during his recovery period was optimum. With some basic improvements -- cable TV upgrade, more extensive food selection, bellhop service, wireless access from room -- this would be a first-class stay for people on a budget. Improving the professionalism and attitude of the desk staff would be the biggest improvement because this is a hotel that, as noted, deals with a clientele facing high-stress situations. This clientele should be treated with respect and the highest courtesy.
