Booked in advance for 3 nights but left after one.
Room on ground floor with window opening out on to an airvent.
Air conditioner barely works.
Towels are old, torn and worn.
Carpet of room dirty.
Room hardly cleaned.
The only good thing was the breakfast room which has a good view.
Moved out after one night and found a better hotel 5 minutes away with balcony and sea view for 45euros. If you are not arriving peak season, no need to book anywhere and avoid the Sumengen.

After a couple of e-mails with the hotel staff, I had faxed my information to confirm a room and have a car pick me up at the airport. Unfortunately, no car was there at the airport waiting for me. Luckily, someone I met was staying at the hotel next door and we went by taxi to the hotel.
When I arrived, there was no room reservation for me. I showed the person behind the counter the confirmed fax and he was able to find a room. The bathroom looked like someone had been using it recently and the bedding could have used some updating.
The dining facilites were fine with a view of the Marmara Sea.
The main problem was that my boyfriend was to stay with me later and I wanted to upgrade to a double room. The desk clerk refused to accomodate us saying that it was not their business practice. He said that if we were married we could have a double room. I checked out of the hotel and found accomodation elsewhere for us for a week. Overall, my stay was OK.

The people who work at the hotel are nice and the services are excelent but the bed and sheets could be better and softer. The location of the hotel is wonderful because most of the major attractions are within walking distance. Several resturants and shops are near by with a decent nightlife. The store and resturant owners are always open and welcoming.
There is breakfast in the morning which is include that is bread, cheese, meats, eggs and cereal. Although it seems to be alot, it can sometimes get repetative and you might want to get out of the hotel sometimes.
Luckily there is a free internet which is always available in the lounge with a TV. Its a nice place to sit and relax with tea or coffee and talk to the friendly recepttionist.
There needs to be more and better TV channels. The bathrooms are pretty small making a shower not very comfortable. Overall and despite some minor setbacks i have had a great experience throughtout my time here and would return. I would reccomend this hotel to anyone looking for a cozy vacation.

We had an excellent experience at Sumengen Hotel in Istanbul, located in a historic old Ottoman house in the Sultanahmet district, very convenient to Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque, Arasta Bazaar, and many small and charming restaurants. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet. The breakfast was generous, served in a lovely sunlit room. The staff, in particular the front desk staff, was extremely friendly and helpful (as are most Turkish people). We would definitely return to this hotel.
