Stayed there last week on a return from Asheville-flying back to California from Greenville. Heard great reviews from Trip Advisor.
Staff was friendly, room was ready on time and Breakfast was one of the Best sit down I had in a motel BUT room was very dated and badly in need of a face lift. Rooms are outside rather than "inside hotel style" faced parking lot and very very noisy the worst part of the room was the light in the bathroom that constantly had a very noisy fan on.
Location is so so . Close to downtown Price of $89/night AAA rate was only OK -due to Breakfast. Business Services decent
In no way as nice and as good as a value as the Drury Inn(see my review) where I stayed another night in the trip

I recently spent 2 nights at the Phoenix for a yearly meeting and dinner. As usual, the staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful, and accomodating. The rooms are a good value and I highly recommed this small property for anyone.

Stayed at The Phoenix for just one night. We are unfamiliar with the Greenvile area, and based our selection on the opinions of other Trip Advisor reviewers. We couldn't have been more satisfied. The Phoenix is unique, not just one of many in a chain of hotels, and has ample charm and character.
The property is located up on a hill, with a white split-rail fence leading up to it. The lobby was clean and inviting, and the staff efficient and helpful. From the outside, the Phoenix appears to be an older property, a motel-type with outside corridors. Although it looks clean and neat from the outside, its exterior appearance is rather unremarkable, but don't let this dissuade you from staying here! Our room exited to a garden area with a fountain, bistro tables, and swimming pool (although it was too cool to try the pool while we were there.) The room itself was immaculately clean, and the pictures from their website accurately depicted the entire property. We had a four-poster king size, non-smoking room, and were completely satisfied in every regard. The room also had a microwave & mini-refrigerator, as well as an in-room coffee maker.
The room rate ($89) also included breakfast buffet. Our needs were fully attended to at breakfast by our impeccably attired French server, and the buffet was not your typical "hotel breakfast" - It included scones, muffins, fresh fruit, fresh orange juice, biscuits & gravy, eggs, meats, grits, and a selection of cereals.
While in Greenvile, we picked up the brochure from the Chamber of Commerce, detailing other area attractions, and are planning a return visit - After our experience, we wouldn't think of staying anywhere else but here again.
In making our choice to stay at the Phoenix, we found the vast majority of Trip Advisor reviews to reflect the same type of experience we had. Anyone who isn't pleased staying at this delightful place is quite possibly going to be dissatisfied wherever they go - We highly recommend it, and it's a tremendous value for the price.

I did NOT want to spend the night in Greenville, SC. I did NOT want to shell out for a hotel room and dinner. The howling wind across the state dictated otherwise, making home an unrealistic destination for a little airplane, and the FBO (airport services) made a phone call for me. "The Phoenix is close, it's reasonable, and safe." He asked for their 'best rate' and gave me a ride a few hundred yards to the motel. A lovely lobby and elegant dining room had my spirits lifting already, and the evening desk clerk checked me in with gracious and warm efficiency, and went out of her way to make sure my stay was comfortable. The room was quiet, spotless, plenty big and nicely furnished. She recommended a sandwich in the pub, and I thankfully took the advice. This classics-only snob had a perfectly wonderful evening listening to a superb bluegrass band, ate the best crabcake sandwich she'd had in years, and was invited to a table full of genial souls. What a fine bit of serendipity this place was!
At checkout the next morning, the desk clerk asked if I'd had breakfast... and pointed to a lavish full buffet, part of the price of the $70 room. With full tummy and good memories, I headed east with a fine tailwind. Sometimes the bad news is very good news disguised.
