We looked for a hotel out of Nottingham but within easy reach of major roads. The Clumber Park Hotel met those requirements and is opposite a lovely national park.
The hotel is currently under-going refurbishment and our room was along a corridor that we shared with builders and tradesmen. All day you could hear banging and knocking and smell paint and dust. We decided to leave but the hotel owner interevened and offered us a reduced rate to stay. At the time we had been driving all day and it was pouring with rain so we did stay though, with hindsight, we should have gone.
After unpacking, I went to use the toilet in the room, to find it hadn't been cleaned since the previous occupant (very unpleasant, believe me ...)
The room itself was OK though the bed was too soft, pillows too hard. The major problem however, was the heat. The room was very hot and didn't have a/c. Unfortunately, opening the window wasn't really an option because road noise was so bad. It was impossible to sleep at night.
This hotel has the potential to be very good but, at the moment, it needs some tweaking.

We checked in quite late for our one night stay - e.g after midnight. The Duty Receptionist was very helpful and professional in the way he processed our check in and allocated the room.
Our room was very clean, warm and comfortable.
Plenty of free Daily Newspapers available to pick up and read enroute to breakfast the following morning.
Breakfast was served in a conservatory style restaurant. We were shown to our table by a helpful member of staff who explained the system of help yourself cereals, fruit juice and do it yourself toast machine. He took our order for cooked breakfast. I had the full English whilst my wife ordered Eggs Benedict. My full English was fine although if I was picky, the fried egg was hard and overcooked. The Eggs Benedict eventually arrived and consisted of a muffin on which was placed a poached egg with a slice of Palma Ham. My wife queried where was the Hollandaise sauce at which the waiter took the plate back to the kitchen and returned saying that there was no Hollandaise sauce. He did not offer an alternative. By this time other guests had arrived and the restaurant staff could not cope with the orders. Breakfast ingredients started running out, and guests were left for an unreasonable time waiting for their breakfasts. Very poor.
The Breakfast service was totally unacceptable and I felt sorry for the few staff trying to cope with an inadequate kitchen.

I am writing because I had my wedding at the Clumber Hotel in October
and it was my wedding party that had all of the problems with breakfast the next day.
I have to say straight away though that the wedding itself was fantastic. It was a perfect day, the venue beautiful, the food amazing
and the staff fantastic. I have no complaints at all about that and would recoomend anybody to hold their wedding there.
The next morning however was extremely embarrasing for me. I had approx 10 rooms booked with guest party's and was horrified with the service at breakfast. When we came down we were told we couldn't go through for food because they had run out and that was about as much information as we were given. After about 40 minutes we eventually got some breakfast, but not the full choice and we had to chase waiters down for a cup of tea. Some of my guests didn't get any breakfast at all. I was really upset about it, as they had all paid a lot of money for their rooms to come to my wedding. Breakfast seems to
be a recurring issue, so perhaps the management needs to sort it out before they add any more rooms to the equation.

The hotel is undergoing refurbishment. We stayed in a newly decorated room that was in good condition, clean and tidy. We had invited guests to a family birthday party. The 'al a carte' restaurant ran out of food and the attitude of the staff left a lot to be desired. The Sunday morning breakfast was a disaster with numerous guests unable to have breakfast due to the shortage of food. I did complain to a sympathetic manager who promised to contact me before we left. I am still waiting to hear! This criticism does not extend to the bar staff who we found to be pleasant and helpful.

This hotel looks lovely from the outside and is set amongst beautiful scenery.
The hotel is being renovated and we were unfortunate enough to get one of the old rooms. It was very dark, a bit shabby and there was a broken tile hanging off in the bathroom. We had requested a room for four but got one double bed and one single. The room also smelt a bit damp.
Breakfast was appalling. I waited forty minutes for a cup of tea! Hash browns were simply sliced potatoes and my sausage looked half raw. I then waited a further twenty minutes for some toast (thinking I'd eat it with my egg) and that was just like warm bread. There simply wasn't enough staff - two members serving the whole restaurant.
Apart from that, it's reasonably pleasant, just ask for a newly decorated room and make yourself a cup of tea in the room!
