The hotel was booked as part of a package tour, and was very comfortable. Located centrally near shopping and restaurants, we could easily walk everywhere we needed to go.

Universal Hotel has a great location. It is few minutes walk to both zhengyang and zhongsan shopping street. It is a short ride to many tourist spots . The rooms are ok. The breakfast buffet is not so good, but acceptable, specially , considering the low priced room rate.

The Universal is a big business-like hotel near the Li River. The rooms are plain and comfy, although showing their age a bit. It is well located for the town centre. English is spoken at reception. It's not a very memorable place, so I can't think of much else to say.

We stayed here 2 nights at 2004 joining a group tour. I like this hotel cause it's location. Just in front of Li Jiang river that had a very nice view at night. At morning I talk a walk to Seven Star Park thats a short walk to the bridge. It's a very nice park with good air, famous camel mountain, peacocks that flying free inside there. Overall, this hotel very recommended for those who love view n fresh air. Hope this can help a little bit. Ciao

The Universal is a modern hotel just a couple of minutes walk away from Guilins main shopping and entertainment street. The room we had was very nicely decorated, obviously very recently. However, the appearance may have been disguising some quality problems. We were only able to get lukewarm water in the wash hand basin and shower, no matter what the time of day. In addition, the second night we were able to hear our neighbours through the adjoining wall as if they were sharing our room. When we first used one of the computers in the business centre a warning box appeared, obviously from an anti-virus package, as I could see the word trojan in the mesage. It would not allow us to proceed any further. The desk staffs response was to turn the computer on and off again and then tell us that it was now fixed. Of course, it came back almost immediately. Something to bear in mind if you are entering sensitive details such as credit card numbers etc. Despite this, the desk staff were very friendly and as helpful as they could be depending on their grasp of English. They actually smiled a lot which we have found to be quite rare among Chinese hotel staff. All in all I would recommend the hotel unless you like to take scalding hot showers or are on your honeymoon and do not want your neighbours banging on the wall telling you to keep the noise down.
