For these rates, one could expect a really decent hotel. However, Hotel Niki doesn't live up to any normal standards. The carpets were stained & smelly. In our room, there were no cleaning whatsoever, for the whole week of our stay. We know, 'cause we found a big "ball" of dust behind the door on day one, & on the last day it was still there. No changing of linen/towels, unless you really go on about it. Worst of all; in our friends' room, there was actually someone who had been trying to sweep the floor one day. But she had also smoked a cigarrette in the room, & actually left the butt in the ashtray!!! Can you believe it!?!?!? One of our friends is asthmatic, & had an attack from the cig. odour. When we complained at the front desk, they had the guts to deny that the butt were from one of the employees! Never again! Stay away! There are way better hotels in London, at a lower cost!

We stayed at this hotel after a wonderful trip to Spain. It was my first trip to London, and I obviously had great expectations despite the fact that I knew the weather is depressing and gloomy 90% of the time. So we're off to the Hotel on Heathrow Express and a perfect 10 for transportation system there. Checking into the hotel I thought wow convenient to Trains and buses. Upon arriving the first thing that disturbed me were the squeaky floors and hearing the guests in the other rooms. I was wondering whether we had miscalculated and the daily rate was actually the total rate for 3 nights. Turns out I was wrong. The bathroom is horrible the shower handle was sub standard The lighting was like 30 wattage bulbs. The sheets were scary... They gave me the impression that bugs were hidden in the mattresses. I consider New York city to be filthy compared to London but I don't think that US budget hotels are of such poor standards. NIKI hotel has no standards. It's the worst you can get. I couldn't drink the tea far less to eat the food.. it's just disgusting. I was very happy when we were out sightseeing and hated retreating to the hotel... was a complete nightmare. I also visited two other budget hotels there although they were a bit better than Niki but they have the same... poor lighting... ugly looking wardrobes.. squeaky floors... horrible showers... broken handles.. like just stuff from the 60's that you will never get in the US. That hotel doesn't make you feel like ure in London. It's a dump. It's only good for it's location. Don't go there! pay $20 more for better comfort. Would never stay there again

I had booked at the Niki after a month long tour of Europe, in the hope of getting a comfortable bed and a clean room to relax in afterwards. Whoops...big mistake.
I get the feeling that New management has inherited what is essentially a very dodgy hotel and may be starting to make moves to making it better - Unfortunately my experience was nowhere close to being pleasant.
First of all, I won't comment on the size of the room - Its London and you can't expect huge space.
The room I got was dirty with electrical wiring poking out dangerously close to my head in the bed.
The floor was on a large slant - I put a bottle on the floor and it literally rolled away.
The bed was hard and the linen soiled.
The shower pressure was a laugh - I ended up using the basin because the water was warmer.
I spent some time on the very expensive internet but had to stop and go to my room because a prostitute was in reception watching me over my shoulder as I typed.
The receptionist started having a very loud fight with a fellow co-worker in the middle of reception.
Positives
Its a fantastic location, 2 minutes at the most from Paddington station.
The staff were generally very helpful - especially on the phone. I appreciated that they confirmed my booking with minimum fuss and greeted me by name when I arrived.
The hotel can store your luggage in their breakfast room for free, however this is an unsecured room and not something I would recommend.
If you're looking for a place to just sleep and nothing else, go for it. If, like me, you're hoping to spend a fair bit of time in your room relaxing, you're much better looking elsewhere.

I knew that other travelers had not liked this hotel, but I saw that the location was excellent, and I needed an elevator (lift). The room and bed were O.K., and the en suite bathroom was large and very nice and clean -- even the shower curtain. The continental breakfast was a little under par, though.
The real problem was that the second morning, as I was packing to depart, I saw a large roach on the wall, the first roach I ever saw in the U.K., and I have been there twelve or fifteen times.
