Like most british guests we spoke to, we were really booked into the Baron Palms, only to be told on our arrival at 10:30pm "No room". Eventually we were placed in the Baron Resort.
Room: We had quiet room overlooking the sea. The room was cleaned daily, fresh towels every day too. We thought the mini bar should have been a little cheaper to AI guests.
Food: For a 5* hotel the food should have been better, I have been in a 3* in Sharm, where the food was far superior, I was expecting better things here. For a change we ate at the Italian Restaurant twice, I ordered lasagne both times. 1st time was great , I enjoyed it, 2nd time, very disapointing, they had changed the ingredients, I could not eat it and sent it back.
Beach: Each morning as we walked to our sunbed we were greeted by Mostafa (one of the waiters), with an "Hello Boss" and a wave. We always went down the beach to where it was quiet, we had the same beds each day and never arrived before 10am and there were many more we could have chosen from too .
Bars; We had quite a lot of fun at the beach bar in the late afternoon, this is where we would meet up for a drink with friends, with Mostafa keeping us all amused with his drawings and chit chat, he could not do enough to make us enjoy our stay, somedays when he had time he would bring a drink to us on our sun beds. He was always concerned when we did not arrive at our usual time or if he had not seen us all day.
Overall the holiday was alright, certainly not the worst,
If the food was better I may think about going back to this hotel, but I would have to know it had improved before I think of booking again.

Having stayed at a 4 star hotel in sharm on a previous trip which was terrific, we thought that we would treat ourselves to some 5 star luxury. We stayed at the Baron Resort early June 2008 and payed ?600 more than we usually pay for a top class hotel in Turkey. What an expensive mistake!! We were so called "all inclusive" but beware, this is not an exclusively all inclusive hotel. We were treated like second class citizens. Our son and his family were staying at another hotel in Sharm and came to visit. We paid for their meals and drinks. The waiter snatched away the drinks we had taken for them and said that they couldn't drink them as they were entitled to quality ones - bottled beer and fresh orange juice (whilst we had the cheap and nasty versions.) Only 2 of the Al La Carte restaurants are available to AI guests but the full menu isn't. We ate in the Italian but couldn't have a choice of dessert, just ice cream. Like the main nuffet restaurant, the food was disgusting and inedible. The Italian Sauce was a tin of chopped tomatoes!! In the buffet restaurant they had a trough of stinking black ox liver, the smell made us feel sick. We lived for 2 weeks on soup and bread!! The bars were a disaster. You could never get a cold drink. At the pool bar, all the drinks were from bottles left in the sun. Tonic water for Gin was "unavailable" but mysteriously appeared for non AI guests. No glasswashers on the bars - glasses were dipped in a bowl of dirty water and dried on a tablecloth that had been taken off an adjacent table. Lunchtime "light meals and snacks" at the beach bar were non-existent. You had to argue that you had paid for them and they were advertised, then you would be offered a roll - we even had to share a portion of chips!! The entertainment was non-existent, just a bunch of young kids trying hard to be funny or put on a show on a par with a boy scout evening around the camp fire. Most nights we went to bed before 10pm because we couldn't get a decent drink and there was nothing to do. We told the manager was we thought of his hotel - a 5 star building (and that is being generous!!) with 2 star food, drinks and entertainment. We told him that the idea of a "Resort" hotel is to have everything provided on site as there is nothing outside of the hotel (ust desert). We booked accomodation via Hotels4u.com, part of Thomas Cook, who also had guests at this dump. We complained to their rep, who could only offer a complaint form! A major Russian Tour operator, Mostar, mans the enquiry desk all day which tells a story - they get cheap deals and we pay for it by going AI and having everything done down to a price for the Russians. Had to have a short break in Spain the second week of July to help us recover from the experience as we just felt we hadn't had a holiday. The 3 star hotel we stayed in had terrific food and great entertainment!!!

Just returned from a week in Sharm - like the rest of the reviewers, we were'upgraded ' to the Baron Resort from the Baron Palms.
Some facts from our experience;
1) Food was excellent, varied over the week, some good theme nights (mexican, seafood, mediterranean etc)
2) Room was clean, great sea view, good size for 2
3) Pools very nice, not that busy in the pool, but all the sunbeds in the area get 'owned' from 0700 - 0900 - no different to anyother hotel or resort.
4) Bar staff friendly and mostly co-ooperative - 1 guy at the pool bar sometimes got it wrong and then got a bit grumpy but thats all. Chefs were great in the restaurant - especially the pasta chef in the evening!
5) We didnt feel in the minority in terms of other nationalities, just a mix of italian, english, spanish and Russians with no-one causing any issues at all.
6) The hotel is near the airport (10 mins) but you would not be able to tell as there was very little aircraft noise.
7) Snorkelling from the jetty is unbelievable and much better than we expected.
8) Evenings can be as active or quiet as you want - baron plams had the entertainment and the more liveley bar, but the Baron Resort was more peaceful. We never found the need to leave the complex.
This was our first trip to Egypt and our first experince of AI.
We think we are fussy and did all the reserach and read all the reviews before picking the Baron palms and so were initially gutted to be in the Baron Resort. That feeling lasted about 2 minutes when we saw our view from our room.
We cannot find anything to complain about in this Hotel, it was a superb holiday and we would most certainly go back to the Baron Resort.
We booked through Travel Republic and it was easy and well organised.
Hotels4U rep turned up on our first day, we booked the 1 day fly trip to cairo with him (probably not cheapest option but it was easy) Had a good day in Cairo - long day but worth it - just go with a view that some of the detours are set up to provide income for tour guide but there was no hassle and the walk around the pyramids made it worthwhile for us.
Summary - great holiday in a great Hotel, we will be returning.

We keep going back to the Baron because we have never been disappointed. The hotel is kept immaculately clean, the rooms are spacious, comfortable, quiet and have a magnificent view (at least the one looking East). We found both management and service staff courteous and always willing to help. We do not use the swimming pool and, therefore, do not have much to say about it but the beach is one of the best in that stretch of the Sinai coast: it is long, clean and not overcrowded. Access to the sea and reef is easy; the water is clean and if you prepared to swim 10 yards or so away from the jetty, one can spend hours snorkeling without having to fight one's way trough a sea of fins and elbows.
Over the year the clientele of the Baron has changed but I do not feel it is reasonable to haul over the coals the staff for the questionable manners of some of the guests.
We have recommended the Baron to our friends and colleagues and we hope to go back this year.
