Stayed two nights in a 4 poster large room and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Ideal location if you have a dog as the grounds are wooded and suitable for dog walking. Nice quite location - especially on a summer evenning with drinks on the lawn. People in the surrounding area were polite and friendly which made the stay enjoyable. Food was good and to a high standard.

Stayed one night as a "special last night" of our holiday. It all looked very good and clean on entering the hotel. Checked in and went up to our room to find twin beds. We had paid for a large room with a four poster.... not quite the same thing. We went back to reception where the girl didnt even look at our details, she just handed us a form and said thats your booking details there and that is what we have given you. Its a pity she didnt bother to read it as the first line said four poster! How stupid did she look then? Anyway we got the keys to another room. Bed was ok and the bathroom looked fine All very old fashioned but it is an old manor. It was very dirty though. You could write your name in the dust under the bed The canopy on top of the bed had actual lumps of dirt on it. It had obvioulsly never ever been taken off and washed. The curtains didnt fit the window and the wardrobe doors kept swinging open. Again no electric socket anywhere near a mirror. Such a simple thing, Why dont hotels get it? In the morning the shower started to make screaming noises and then started to splurt out boiling water. I scalded my head so badly it has blistered. My partner wasnt even able to have a shower. Obviously this had to be brought to their attention as it is so dangerous. The manager was very apologetic and did ask if I was ok. As compensation for burning my head and my partner having to travel home with no shower we had ?15 deducted from our bill. Right.

Discusting - unfriendly - ignorant owner who has ignored all my phone calls e mails and my complaints letter which one of his staff wrote out for me as thay do not have a complaints procedure ... I booked a week in advance after I researched for a disabled friendly hotel and the guy who booked me in 'Stewart / Stuart said it was and booked me in to a ground floor room' i phoned on the morning to say i would be late arriving ( late afternoon) as i was coming from my work i was told all was ok when i got there there was no room for disabled person my husband was asked to go down approx 20 stairs to get to the room ( the stair carpet also looked slippy with dirt) Why was i told this was a disabled friendly hotel when clearly it isnt ... The owner Andrew Gorman has ignored my phone calls my e mail
etc I'm surprised this god forsaken place is still operable.

Locked out

We travelled up from the Midlands to visit friends in Lochmaben, arrived at 3.00pm having booked 3 rooms (party of 5) on the internet. Staff were very friendly and welcoming upon arrival and rooms looked clean and tidy with bags of "character".
The Manager asked if we wanted an evening meal but we could not tell him as we did not know what our friends had organised.
We had a lovely evening in Lochmaben and returned to the Hotel at 10.35pm to find the front door closed. Unperturbed at this stage we parked up & dashed for the door as it was raining hard & very windy. We began to get a little worried when the room keys we had been given would not fit the front door. There did not seem to be many guests booked in as there were only 5 or 6 cars, and only 1 or 2 lights on in bedrooms.
There was no night bell and no amount of knocking, rattling the door, shouting & whistling in the car park could arouse anyone. No night bell was provided. Not to worry we thought, we had mobile phones on us, so we rang the Hotel. No answer!!!!! not even an answerphone to leave a message.
By this time half an hour had passed so we decided the only thing to do was to find alternative acommodation, which we did at a very efficient, friendly, basic, but clean & comfortable, Premier Inn.
We had to return to the Lockerbie Country Manor Hotel as I had taken my overnight bag up to our room on arrival. Staff were very apologetic and of course did not charge, but did not offer any compensation either, (only half heartedly mentioned that they might be able to do something for us if we were up that way again) nor could they give any satisfactory explanation as to why we were locked out or why the phone went un answered.
3 star !!!!! you must be joking.

We stayed here as part of a wedding in February.
Whilst the downstairs of the hotel was very nice the bedrooms were in need of a facelift. They were seriously dated. The most recently refurbished room which the bride and groom occupied was open plan - including the bathroom! You could watch the large lcd wall mounted television from the bath, shower or even the toilet (over a very low wall)!! Perfect for those intimate moments you don't wish to share. We all had problems with the showers either not working properly or too hot/cold.
However the extremely attentive staff - namely James (reminiscent of Basil Fawlty - he did EVERYTHING and was EVERYWHERE) and Andrew, were what made the stay an overall above average experience. Nothing was too much trouble.
