The Atlantic Coast Hotel is rated as a 4* establishment but i fail to see why ! As part of the Carlton Group we were expecting a much higher standard but were disappointed. While it offers the basics, luxury would not be in abundance. There are areas within the hotel which could benefit from a once-over. The website for the hotel does not offer a potential client the opportunity to view the hotel or rooms. The Blue-wave Restaurant had limited ambience and despite ordering a well-done steak and reiterating so, a medium-rare was served. A gentleman speaking quietly on his mobile had previously been asked to refrain from using it while a party of women were permitted to cause a fracas at the other side of the room. If you need a place to sleep whilst touring the surrounding country-side, book a B&B.

We were here over the long Easter weekend, it was the only hotel in the area with interconnecting rooms available. Having read the TA reviews, we didn't have very high expectations and that is the only reason that I didn't let the hotel ruin our weekend. The hotel facade is an unimpressive stone building overlooking a "harbour" but what looks like a pond. A cheap clothing store next door doesn't help the look. The hotel lobby is small and definitely doesn't look 4-star. The check-in staff were efficient but not overly friendly. The rooms we were first assigned to smelt of urine (the cleaners were still hovering in the hallway) so we requested another 2 rooms which smelt a little better. They're small and definitely not 4-star. They overlooked the "harbour" which was quite nice. We had a drink and a snack at the Harbour Bistro Bar which was very busy which may have accounted for the very dirty floors and seats. Service was slow and we had to keep reminding waiters of our orders. Dinner and breakfast was in the 4th floor restaurant which has nice views. Other TA reviewers have raved about the food but we thought that it was pretty average. Our complimentary pre-appetizers on one night consisted small slice of melon and brie cheese on a toothpick, and on another night, it was leftover smoked chicken starter from another night! All in all, if we hadn't got a good deal for the weekend, we would have been pretty disappointed with the quality of the hotel. Just beware that this is not a 4 star hotel!!

I have just returned from a week in the Altantic coast with my husband and 2 year old daughter. It was ok, but not as great as expected. We had booked the Clew Bay Suite so that our daughter could sleep in separately from us. We had various issues - lack of storage space for clothes, radiators that clanked and banged very noisily when on, no hot water in the mornings, radiators going off at night, despite the extremely cold weather. The bedding offered for my daughter's cot was a small eiderdown and either a scratchy wool blanket or a nylon one that threw off sparks each time she moved. We managed to get sheet for the cot but had to do with 2 very small covers for her that wouldn't itch.
We ate in the restaurant, which was the hotel's saving grace - lovely food and great service. We also ate in the bistro - however the service was appalling and on one occasion, my meal didn't arrive at all as they had forgotten to order it.
So on the whole, wouldn't recommend it and wouldn't stay there again. 3* at the most to be honest.

I have just returned from a fantastic weekend at the Atlantic Coast!
After reading the reviews I was a bit dubious, but since I had it booked & a deposit paid I was still going to go!!
Upon arriving I was greeted by a very friendly receptionist who was so helpful, from then on we enjoyed everything from the food to the pool to the very pleasant & spotless rooms.
I defintely wouldn't let these reviews change or influence your opinions. Go and find out for yourself just what a little gem this place is!

Very disappointed with this hotel. It should be down graded to a 3* at most. I booked this two nights B+B and evening meal through the hotel web site and saved a few Euros. The Web site was impressive - but we were very disappointed. I booked it for our 23rd wedding annerversy The room was very basic, no luxuries here. The heating was turned of in the room when we arrived (bare in mind the cold from the March Atlantic winds). The pool area was little more than a shed with a pool stuck in for good measure, this put us off the Spa treatments..The ( So called gormet meal) meal was very disappointing, restricted menu, four differant staff members trying to serve you and getting it wrong.
On a good note, the staff are very helpful & friendly. The food in the bar was ok& there was entertainment for the 2 nights we were there, but prefered the enterainment in the near by bar. The breakfast was very enjoyable /excellent. But the whole experience was regreatful. Sorry I did not book another hotel.
