Edinburgh,March 08. We stayed here last year for 4 days and found the whole experience a delight. We have booked to return again this July for 1 week. I would endorse all the positive comments already made. Like last year we will no doubt eat in the hotels restaurant (Il Pode), it would be hard to beat for quality and price. You will not be dissapointed with this lovely hotel, from arrival to departure we found it faultless. It is family run with the owners being very much at hand, and very hard working. There are very few English speakers on the staff which allowed us to practice our Italian . This is a 4 star hotel with 3 star prices. Looking forward to our next visit. Tuscany here we come!

Absolutely fabulous experience.
From the check in experience until we left the hotel 5 days later, we were treated with courtesy and respect. The Failli Famioy and their staff was exceptionally friendly.
The room was very clean and tidy with, in our case, a lovely view of the olive orchards.
The hotel's restaurant, Ristorante Da Pode, offers an excellent Tuscan menu with a generous wine list and excellent friendly service.
The breakfast buffet was the best we encountered during our three week travels through Italy
The hotel is situated very near San Giminiano, the lovely city of towers and very convenient to Florence, Siena, and other Tuscan destinations.
It truly deserves more than a three star rating. We highly recommend the Hotel Sovestro.

We picked this hotel having read Trip Advisor reviews and would endorse everything that has been said already. The staff were relaxed, helpful and efficient. The hotel is very clean and well-maintained, as are the grounds. The hotel is notably solidly built, with very little intrusion of noise from the corridor and the adjacent bedrooms. An outstanding feature is a large, very pleasant swimming pool to which there is very easy access from the hotel rooms. The hotel-related restaurant located immediately next door, Da Pode, serves really good Tuscan food and wine and offers good value for money. It's easy to over-eat there! The hotel is situated in pleasant surroundings and is close to San Gimignano, plus it's fairly easy to get to other parts of Tuscany by car. You can walk into San Gimignano up the old road (Via Vecchia), which runs for one mile virtually to the gates, and this definitely affords the most spectacular views of this hilltop city, its famous towers, and the surrounding Tuscan countryside.
One downside which we hadn't spotted in the reviews was the constant traffic noise (daytime and night-time) from the busy main road that runs straight past the hotel about a 100 metres away. The road carries all the tourist and service traffic between the Florence-Siena autostrada and San Gimignano, which is a major tourist attraction and overwhelmed by tourists in high summer. At night, because of the noise, we had to sleep with our windows closed and with our air-conditioning (which was noisy and ineffective in hot weather) on. This noise intrusion was quite unexpected and detracted from our enjoyment of our stay. In retrospect we wished we had chosen a hotel in a genuinely tranquil location, but stayed on for the full 12 nights that we had booked because the plus-points of the hotel outweighed the noise issue.

Stayed 3 nights in early June '07. I agree with most earlier reviewers - it is an excellent, friendly hotel with very clean rooms. We had an upstairs room in the two-story section with its own very private balcony with umbrella and chairs. The room was a little small, but made up for it with the balcony.
The best part is the restaurant which serves typical Tuscan country food, beautifully cooked and served. There is also a good wine list.
The location is ideal, being about 2km from San Gimignano and on the main road to other towns in Tuscany. The weather wasn't perfect when we were there, but the hotel location made it easy to go back and forth with your own car. No problems with parking, unlike in the centre of many of those small Tuscan towns.
Would definitely return.
