Once we figured out how to get here we were pleased with what we found. An obviously business-oriented hotel, there was nothing at all charming about it. It was clean, with reasonable service.
The location was good, close to the ferry terminal as well as most attractions in Heraklion.
I'm not sure we'd go back to Heraklion, but if we were to we would likely stay at this hotel again.

My girlfriend and I visited this hotel for three nights in May 2008.
On arriving at the hotel we were basically ignored by the front desk, even though there was no one else around. There was also no one to help us with our bags. We managed to get the attention of the front desk staff and were checked in, with no conversation and no offer of local maps, advice etc although some were available, which we took.
We went to our room and found we had to single beds pushed together (a double or more had been requested and paid for when booking). A quick phone call from our room and we were moved immeadiately, not too bad.
The room was large and relatively well appointed. The decor is a little old and didn't match the websites photos, but it was reasonably good. Nice balcony. The TV had two english speaking channels (CNN and BBC world). CNN didn't work, but I didn't follow up as I wasn't there to watch TV. Air con was pretty poor. High-Med-Low settings. We left it on high and felt hot still and it was not excessively hot outside.
Breakfast buffet in the morning was very good, with a wide selection of hot food, cold food and beverages. We had some room service one night and the food from the A La Carte menu was quite good also. Service from the restaurant and room service staff was friendly and helpful.
Swam in the indoor pool and it was nice and refreshing. It was clean but not a place to relax next to all day.
We did not get much help from the front desk when we sought advice for going on trips outside the hotel. We got told a taxi was booked to take us to the beach but it didn't show up, we walked down and asked a local instead, who give us very clear directions to the bus stop and how to get there. On another occasion we checked how to get to Talos Plaza, to relax and watch a movie. We were given the wrong directions by the hotel. Another friendly local helped us out with clear directions and it was easy to get to. While there we had to send a fax and the front desk staff were helpful with that.
Overall the hotel facilities were fine (maybe not 5 star) but the general lack of help from the front desk (except Maria) means we won't be heading back. We found the locals were friendlier and more helpful than the front desk staff

Adequate but not outstanding choice in Iraklion

I stayed at the Atlantis for one night in fall 2007. The location of the hotel is excellent, and it had some other nice features as well. It’s not the most charming hotel, however.
Positives:
– Excellent location near the center of town and the archeological museum. I took a walk from the hotel early in the AM as Iraklion was awakening and enjoyed walking through the neighborhood.
– Excellent breakfast buffet, including a “Cretan Section” with yummy local specialties, including the luscious cheese-filled pastries.
– The hotel was very quiet – I heard no noise from street or other guests (I was on the 4th floor). I didn’t hear plane noise, but I was also very tired that night and slept soundly.
– There was excellent hot water pressure and temperature in the shower, even on the 4th floor.
– Even though I was in the room alone, I had a large room with three (!) beds to choose from. The room was clean and had no smoke smell (something I’m quite sensitive to).
Negatives/other factors:
– The air conditioning was primitive and poor, with only a high-medium-low setting on an ancient wall panel. Even at what seemed to be the highest setting, it seemed to operate more like a fan than an AC, and the room never got any cooler than 78 degrees F, too warm for me. (Many Greek hotels turn off their AC at the end of summer, but supposedly this one had not done so yet – I wondered, though.) It’s possible that I had a less modern room and that other rooms had better A/C, but I was only staying here for one night so I didn’t bother to inquire.
-- I had few interactions with the staff, but what I had was fine.
In summary, this hotel has an excellent location and breakfast buffet, but was not particularly charming or otherwise interesting. I would stay here again in Iraklion for its convenience, but I wouldn’t be expecting a character-filled hotel with modern A/C. I also wouldn’t stay here in the summer because of the A/C.

We stayed 4 nights in this hotel with our group of 20. We all had clean large rooms with clean huge marble bathrooms, good service at reception, DELICIOUS breakfasts, good location for sightseeing. The ONLY negative was the noise of the jet planes going overhead. We were in room 517, and it sounded like the planes were directly overhead. Not much the hotel could do about this. Our room did NOT smell of smoke (I am really fussy). The pool was a joke...too small and cold to bother with, but we weren't there to swim. I was dreading our stay at the Atlantis based on the recent reviews here, but I couldn't find one single thing to complain about. It sort of leaves me wondering about these travellers' reviews. Leonore.

Thank goodness we had only one night here! I've stayed at much better Motel Sixes (California) than this five-star ashtray. The stench from the nearby port doesn't help matters, either.
Our room (112), definitely a smoking room despite its designation otherwise, was in absolute need of steam cleaning and renovation. The upholstery was stained and the carpets screamed "SHAMPOO ME!" With its salmon-painted metal and approximately 6" x 24" strip window of bulletproof glass, the bathroom door calls to mind a county hospital/sanitorium of the 1950s and early 1960s rather than a hotel of the millennium.
Agree with other reviewers that the staff didn't consist of anyone special. The Atlantis' only redeemable is its restaurant.
